Employment Lawyer

£57,186 to £60,912 | Permanent | Hybrid (2 days per week in office, Birmingham)

We’re looking for a confident and motivated employment lawyer to join the Joint Legal Services team for West Midlands Police and Staffordshire Police. This is a growth post, reflecting the increasing demand for high-quality legal support across both forces.

You’ll take ownership of a busy and varied employment law caseload, working closely with senior officers and HR colleagues. Much of the work is contentious, and you’ll often be at the heart of complex tribunal cases. There’s scope to broaden your practice into areas like police misconduct, inquests, and regulatory work if you’re interested in developing new skills. Typical duties include:

  • Defending employment claims, often involving discrimination and other sensitive issues
  • Preparing cases for hearing, including working closely with counsel
  • Representing the forces in tribunal hearings (usually once or twice per month)
  • Providing advice on employee relations, policies, restructures, and other HR matters

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
