Simpson Judge have partnered with a highly regarded national law firm seeking to appoint an ambitious Employment Associate (1+ PQE) to join its established Employment team in Birmingham.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and collaborative employment practice with a strong national reputation, acting for an impressive and diverse client base. The team handles a broad range of high-quality employment matters, offering exposure to both contentious and non-contentious work alongside opportunities to develop experience in more specialist areas. The Role
You will work as part of a busy and experienced employment team and under a well renowned Employment Partner in the Birmingham market, advising clients across a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. Your work is likely to include:
- Advising employers on day-to-day employment law and HR issues.
- Managing Employment Tribunal claims from initial instruction through to hearing.
- Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, policies, settlement agreements and other employment documentation.
- Advising on disciplinaries, grievances, dismissals, discrimination, whistleblowing and redundancy processes.
- Supporting clients on the employment aspects of corporate transactions and restructurings.
- Assisting on complex and commercially sensitive employment matters.
- Gaining exposure to specialist areas of employment law, including complex pay and reward-related issues.
- Working closely with colleagues across the wider employment practice on significant client matters.
- Developing strong client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the Birmingham team.

The role will offer a significant level of responsibility while providing the support and supervision needed to continue developing your technical and commercial skills. A particular attraction of this opportunity is the scope to gain experience in more specialist and complex areas of employment law. Full training and support will be provided, and previous experience in these areas is not required.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 1 year's post-qualification experience in employment law.
- Experience handling a mixture of contentious and non-contentious employment matters.
- Strong technical ability and excellent attention to detail.
- A commercial and pragmatic approach to client service.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- A willingness to develop new areas of technical expertise.
- A genuine interest in building a long-term career within a leading national practice.
