EMPLOYMENT SOLICITOR

Location: LS15 9JL

Reports to: Team Manager / Director

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Buxton Coates Solicitors is a respected and expanding legal firm, recognised for providing expert advice with integrity, clarity and a personal touch. As our Employment Law team continues to grow, we are seeking a skilled and commercially aware Employment Solicitor to deliver high-quality advice, support client relationships, and contribute to the continued development of the department.

ROLE PURPOSE

You will provide expert legal advice on all aspects of employment law to a varied client base, including but not subject to dental practices and healthcare providers. You will manage your own caseload, deliver clear and commercially sensible solutions, and play a key role in strengthening our employment offering.

  • Advise clients on a full range of employment matters, including disciplinary and grievance processes, performance management, redundancy, TUPE and workplace disputes.
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts, handbooks, settlement agreements and HR documentation.
  • Prepare and present robust advice letters, reports and guidance notes.

Tribunal Work

  • Manage Employment Tribunal matters from instruction to conclusion.
  • Prepare pleadings, witness statements, bundles and liaise with counsel where appropriate.
  • Represent clients at preliminary hearings and support on full hearings.

Client Relationship Management

  • Maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients through responsive, proactive and clear communication.
  • Provide practical and commercially focused advice tailored to each client’s needs.
  • Provide support to our Oracle HR service clients.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure all work complies with SRA regulations and internal quality standards.
  • Keep accurate time recording, file notes and case progress updates.

Business Development & Firm Engagement

  • Contribute to the growth of the Employment Department and firm by identifying new opportunities, referring clients and promoting our services.
  • Attend networking events, webinars and seminars where required.
  • Assist in producing occasional employment law updates and content to promote the services.

Professional Development

  • Keep up to date with legislative changes, case law and best practice.
  • Participate in internal training and contribute to knowledge sharing across the firm.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Qualified Solicitor with experience in employment law.
  • Confident in managing a varied and fast-paced workload with minimal supervision.
  • Positive, proactive approach with strong attention to detail and organisation.
  • Excellent IT, verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to follow instructions.
  • Patience and tact and to be able to work with all kinds of clients
  • Initiative and the ability to work in a team.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Respect for confidential information.
