Employment Solicitor – Experienced

£50,000–£60,000 DOE | Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm | Wakefield | Office-based | Free Parking

Join a Growing Specialist Employment Law Firm

Are you an experienced Employment Solicitor looking for greater autonomy, meaningful client relationships and the opportunity to play an important role in the growth of a specialist practice?

My Law Solicitors is a growing employment law firm based in Wakefield. We advise employees and employers across England and Wales on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters.

We're looking for an experienced Employment Solicitor to join our team.

This isn't a role where you'll simply inherit a desk and become another solicitor within a large department.

You'll have responsibility for your own caseload, work directly with clients and have the opportunity to influence how we develop our services and grow the firm.

We're looking for someone who knows how to manage employment law matters confidently and independently, but who also values being part of a close-knit and collaborative team.

The Role

You'll independently manage a varied caseload of employment law matters from initial instruction through to conclusion.

Your work may include:

  • Unfair and constructive dismissal
  • Discrimination and Equality Act claims
  • Employment Tribunal proceedings
  • Grievance and disciplinary matters
  • Redundancy and restructuring
  • Workplace disputes
  • Settlement negotiations
  • Settlement Agreements
  • Employment contracts and general advisory work

You'll take responsibility for your own clients and files, including providing advice, developing case strategy, drafting correspondence and legal documents, conducting negotiations and progressing matters efficiently.

Depending upon your experience, you'll also have the opportunity to take responsibility for more complex Employment Tribunal matters and support junior members of the team as the firm continues to grow.

Settlement Agreements are an important part of our practice, but this is a broader employment law role and we want the successful candidate to maintain and develop their experience across the wider practice area.

More Than a Caseload

We're not simply looking for somebody to process files.

We're building a specialist employment law firm and want to find people who are interested in being part of that journey.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

As an experienced member of a relatively small team, your views will matter.

You'll have the opportunity to contribute to how we work, how we develop our services and how we continue improving the experience we provide to our clients.

As the firm grows, there will also be opportunities for the right person to take on greater responsibility within the team.

About My Law Solicitors

We're a specialist employment law firm based in Wakefield, advising employees and employers throughout England and Wales.

We have deliberately built the firm around a straightforward philosophy: deliver work that we're proud of, care about our clients and create a sustainable environment in which good people can do excellent work.

We don't operate a culture of unnecessary late nights or excessive billing pressure.

We trust experienced solicitors to take ownership of their work, exercise professional judgement and deliver an excellent service to their clients.

At the same time, we're a close-knit team. There will always be colleagues available to discuss a difficult case, share ideas or provide another perspective.

Our standard working hours are 8:00am–4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

When the working day finishes, we want our team to be able to enjoy their lives outside work.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Employment Solicitor who is comfortable taking ownership of their own work.

You should:

  • Be a qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with a current practising certificate.
  • Have substantial experience working within employment law.
  • Be capable of independently managing a varied employment law caseload.
  • Have experience advising on contentious and non-contentious employment matters.
  • Have strong knowledge of employment law and the ability to provide clear, practical and commercially sensible advice.
  • Be confident dealing directly with clients and developing strong professional relationships.
  • Have strong drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Be organised and capable of managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Exercise good professional judgement and recognise when collaboration or a second opinion would be beneficial.
  • Have a genuine commitment to excellent client care.
  • Enjoy working collaboratively within a smaller team.
  • Be able to reliably commute to our Wakefield office.

Employment Tribunal experience would be particularly valuable.

We're less concerned with an exact number of years' PQE than we are with the experience and capability you can bring to the role.

What We Offer

  • £50,000–£60,000 salary, depending on experience.
  • 8:00am–4:00pm, Monday to Friday.
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Christmas office closure.
  • Company pension.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • A high degree of autonomy over your own caseload.
  • A varied employment law practice.
  • Direct client relationships.
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • No culture of unnecessary late working.
  • The opportunity to influence the development of a growing specialist firm.
  • Scope to take on greater responsibility as the team continues to expand.

Why Join Us?

There comes a point in your career where the opportunity you're joining can matter just as much as the position you're taking.

My Law Solicitors is still growing.

That means we're able to offer something different from joining an established department where the structure, hierarchy and way of doing things have already been decided.

You'll join a small team of people who care about the firm we're building and the service we provide.

You'll have autonomy over your work, direct access to the people running the business and the opportunity to contribute ideas rather than simply follow an established process.

As we grow, we want the people who help us build the firm to have the opportunity to grow with it.

If you're an experienced Employment Solicitor who likes the idea of joining a specialist practice at an important stage in its development, we'd be very happy to speak with you.

How to Apply

Please apply via LinkedIn with your CV, or send an email to nickie.elenor@mylawsolicitors.co.uk.

You don't need to write a lengthy covering letter, but we'd be interested to hear briefly what you're looking for from your next role and what interests you about joining a growing specialist firm.

Informal and confidential conversations are also welcomed before making a formal application.
