Job Overview
This role sits within Learning and Workforce Development and will work solely on the Connect to Work project, being delivered by the Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.
The Connect to Work Employment Specialist will support individuals with disabilities, health conditions, or other barriers to employment to obtain and sustain paid work. Using a person-centred approach, the post holder will work closely with participants to identify vocational goals, develop employment plans, and access opportunities that align with their skills, strengths, and aspirations.
Working as part of a team and in partnership with employers, health services, local authorities, and community organisations, the post holder will deliver employment support that promotes independence, social inclusion, wellbeing, and sustainable employment outcomes.
Main duties of the job
- Provide person-centred employment support to individuals participating in the Connect to Work programme.
- Support participants to identify strengths, employment aspirations, and career goals.
- Assist participants to access, secure, and sustain paid employment in line with their preferences and abilities.
- Develop effective working relationships with employers to create employment opportunities and promote inclusive recruitment practices.
- Provide ongoing support to both participants and employers before, during, and after job placement.
- Work collaboratively with health, social care, voluntary sector, and community partners to address barriers to employment.
- Maintain accurate records and monitor participant progress against agreed goals and programme outcomes.
- Contribute to the achievement of service targets, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and recovery-focused practice in all aspects of service delivery.
- Participate in service development, training, supervision, and continuous professional development activities.

Education And Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 6 or equivalent qualification in administration, business management or significant experience or working in an administrative role
- Evidence of recent relevant continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile) or experience with quality improvement methodologies (e.g. Patient First, Lean, Six Sigma)
Skills, Knowledge And Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills, including good writing and proof-reading skills
- Ability to analyse and present a variety of complex information sources clearly and concisely to support making informed decisions
- Excellent stakeholder management skills within the department, and when interacting with stakeholders
- Excellent organisational, prioritising and time management skills to ensure the timely completion of tasks within an administration pool
- Attention to detail to produce a high standard of accuracy for the individual and for others
- Area of specialism within a learning programme, income source or educational software
- Strong IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint for collaboration and digital learning.
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates an up-to-date knowledge of relevant research, local and national policies, and guidelines with education and/or healthcare
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience in administration within healthcare or a similar complex environment
- Experience in providing exemplary standards of customer service or front-line support
- Experience with specialist digital learning platforms
- Experience with or willingness to learn and implement AI and automation solutions to improve accuracy and efficiency
Desirable criteria
- Experience in staff supervision across a matrix structure and HR processes of direct reports
- Purchasing and budget management experience
- Experience of active engagement with audit and service improvement
- Experience collaborating with external partners, HEIs, or professional bodies.
