Role Summary

  • Employment Tax Advisor within Liberty Blume to Liberty Global’s own group entities and external clients
  • Ideal for graduates with 0-3 years experience wanting to pursue a career in the people aspect of tax/finance
  • Support to receive a professional tax qualification (ATT/CTA)

Employment Tax Adviser

Our Employment Tax advisor role sits within the Liberty Blume People Services department. Here we partner with our clients to directly add value to their business, by reducing their risks, mitigating costs and ensuring their employees have an excellent customer experience. The Employment Tax function straddles the traditional external client facing role, with that of delivering & implementing projects of an in-house role.

Working closely with Payroll, Reward, Finance & HR teams, the role is varied from ensuring accurate tax withholding on payments to employees, to assessing the tax position & impact of legislative changes that could affect our clients.

In short, it’s an ideal place for you to build the skills, knowledge and expertise you need to build your career a function that is a hybrid of external advisory and internal implementation.

Through formal training and development as well as the breadth of experience you gain on the job, you will be able to develop a wide range of skills including:

  • Financial acumen
  • Communication
  • Experience across multiple systems and applications

By the end of your programme, you’ll also have achieved your Professional Accountancy Qualification (CTA, ACCA or CIMA). This will be a great kick start to your career in tax or even a broader finance role.

We’re looking for people who are serious about learning and growing, particularly within a Finance-HR environment, and who can take a logical, methodical and proactive approach to work.

Key Accountabilities

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Research & learn employment tax rules across the jurisdictions of various Liberty Blume client (including UK, NL, US, Ireland & Belgium).
  • Supporting & providing employment tax advice related to benefits & expenses (PSAs), payroll tax withholding, off-payroll working (including IR35, Umbrella etc) and share schemes.
  • Assisting with Global Mobility tax compliance, including tracking business travellers and supporting expat tax processes (including coordinating with payroll to ensure accurate withholding and creating a clear value-add to the employee experience).
  • Helping prepare employment tax / expatriate tax guidance & summaries for clients that really add value to their business.
  • Working on share scheme reporting and payroll / tax year end compliance reporting, evidencing value realisation to the client
  • Supporting CIS reviews, and advising Liberty Blume teams on how to meet compliance for each client.
  • Preparing data for advisory reviews, audits and risk assessments
  • Participating in ad-hoc Employment Tax and Global Mobility projects

Knowledge & Experience

  • Past experience of working in a finance function is an advantage but not essential.
  • Part qualified accountant (AAT, ACA, CIMA, CTA etc.) or a graduate (Degree 2.1 or above) who is keen to embark on further study towards a Professional Qualification. Degrees unrelated to Accounting/Finance accepted.
  • 3 A-Levels (A*-C) (or equivalent)
  • 5 GCSEs at C (or 5) and above, including Maths and English.
  • Strong interest in the people aspect of tax or finance functions.
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint is an advantage but not essential

  • Attention to detail and ability to identify and drive the resolution of errors or issues
