Employment Tax Manager — London

I’m working with a leading Big 4 firm in London that is continuing to grow its Employment Tax team.

The reason I think this one is worth a conversation is that it offers something that isn’t always easy to find at Manager level: strong advisory exposure, genuine access to Partners and Directors, and a team with a track record in growth with more ambitious growth plans.

A few things that stand out about the opportunity:

  • Advisory-led work— around two thirds of the team's work is advisory, so you’re not waiting until Director level to get meaningful exposure.
  • Strong Partner and Director access — Managers are trusted with senior client relationships and get genuine exposure to the leadership team.
  • Varied client base — work spans financial services, pharma, TMT, from major household names through to high-growth businesses.
  • Real progression — the team is continuing to grow across all grades, creating opportunities for people who want to take on more responsibility.
  • Broad technical exposure — employment tax advisory, remuneration, transactions, HMRC work and wider employment tax issues.
  • Hybrid working with enough face-to-face time to actually build relationships with Partners, Directors and the wider team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'd actually be doing

You'd have a good degree of ownership over your work rather than simply being another pair of hands on delivery with the opportunity to get involved in areas such as:

  • Advising businesses on a range of employment tax and reward questions
  • Getting involved in wider projects where employment tax forms part of a transaction or restructuring
  • Working through technical issues and helping clients understand the practical implications
  • Having direct conversations with clients and building relationships over time
  • Taking responsibility for your own pieces of work and seeing them through from start to finish
  • Supporting and developing more junior members of the team
  • Working closely with senior members of the team on larger and more complex assignments
  • Playing a role in developing existing client relationships and helping to win new work

The balance of work will depend on your existing experience and where you'd like to develop, but the expectation is that you'll have plenty of opportunity to broaden your experience rather than becoming pigeonholed into one area.

Who would this suit?

You might already be a Manager, or potentially a strong Senior/Assistant Manager who is ready for the next step.

I'd be interested in speaking to people coming from a Big 4, Top 10 or specialist Employment Tax/Reward backgrounds.

You don't need to have done everything, but you should have genuine experience across areas such as:

  • Termination payments
  • Benefits and expenses
  • NMW and fair pay
  • IR35 / off-payroll working
  • Construction Industry Scheme
  • Global employment tax
  • Pensions
  • Governance and controls

A relevant tax qualification isn't mandatory either, my client is more interested in what you've actually done and the level of responsibility you've taken on.

Most importantly, you should be comfortable having conversations with clients and owning relationships rather than simply producing the technical work for someone else.

Interested?

Submit your application via the link and we'll be in touch to discuss your application and the next steps.

If you're not actively looking but would be open to hearing about something that could genuinely be a step up, drop me a message or send me your CV.
