Trafford (Service covers Wigan, Tameside and Trafford)

Main Aims of the Post

To provide Wellbeing support for people on probation as part of the Greater Manchester Rehabilitation Services (GM IRS). To provide one-to-one and group coaching for people on probation in the locality, working with people that may have multiple and complex barriers to overcome them, supporting reduction in reoffending. To develop pathways into the service and outward to local providers to specifically support the rehabilitation of this client group, including but not limited at:

  • De-escalation of complex needs, including risk management and support to understand and maintain licence conditions;
  • Access to a flexible and tailored curriculum of mental health groups and peer support e.g., anger, emotional regulation, dealing with trauma and abuse;
  • Positive relationships with families, communities, and peers;
  • Wellbeing and healthy lifestyles;
  • Access to substance misuse, employment, mental health and housing support; or support to engage with providers of these services.

Main Duties of the Post

  • To engage people that are on probation to support their wellbeing and Wellbeing priorities.
  • To engage and reconnect with service users that have dropped out of treatment.
  • To use a range of evidence-based tools and techniques for motivating clients.
  • To support individuals by helping to best meet their needs through collaboration with other organisations and community service providers
  • To work with groups of clients to help them rehabilitate and support behaviour change
  • To use the service’s computerised client management system to record and review service user’s records and any other required monitoring information.
  • To develop effective relationships with a range of external organisations and agencies, which reflect the diversity of the places we operate in.
  • To be committed to helping individuals develop their rehabilitation through peer support, family relationships, mutual aid and volunteering.
  • To maintain a good knowledge of the barriers that prevent rehabilitation and contribute towards continued learning
  • To ensure quality standards are adhered to and met and that audits are passed.
  • To ensure all statutory responsibilities are followed and reported as required.
  • To conduct a mapping exercise to identify existing support groups working with ‘at risk’ groups in the borough
  • To use feedback in all forms to enhance individual and service development
  • To assist case managers to reach out to troubled families and to consider the safeguarding of both adults and children.
  • To work in compliance with The Big Life group Lone Working policy.
  • To escalate concerns to appropriate authorities (e.g. local authority, probation service, police) when service users have disengaged and increased risks are identified.
  • To utilise pathways which facilitate timely access to clinical psychology services within the treatment service where indicated.
  • To reach and engage with service users through understandable and meaningful language and behaviour.

Experience

  • Experience of working with people with a history of offending or people that have multiple barriers to achieving rehabilitation
  • Experience of client management and keeping up to date records using a database
  • Experience of working with individuals (1-2-1) and groups of people in different settings to help them achieve their goals
  • Experience of working with a range of agencies and organisations to develop effective working relationships

Skills

  • Ability to use (or learn to use) a database
  • Ability to assist clients to help them define and achieve their goals and aspirations
  • Ability to manage a varied and complex workload effectively
  • Ability to work well across a range of different subject areas such as housing, mental health, education and debt management
  • Ability to work with staff from a range of agencies and organisations to better integrate services for clients
  • Ability to lead small groups of people in beneficial activities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the barriers and issues facing people with an offending history
  • Knowledge of the local area your service is based in (community groups, services available as well as local demographics)
  • A knowledge of the culture of personal and community recovery in the field of offending
