Role Description

The Enabler role is a full-time, on-site position based in Exeter. In this role, the Enabler supports individuals to manage daily routines, maintain their living environment, and develop practical life skills such as budgeting, household tasks, time management, and appointment attendance. The Enabler helps people to access education, employment pathways, volunteering opportunities, and social or recreational activities, encouraging confidence and community participation.

  • Providing structured, routine-based support for individuals with additional needs
  • Promoting organisation and stability
  • Maintaining clear, respectful communication with the people supported

The Enabler also liaises with families, commissioners, housing providers, and partner services to coordinate support and contribute to outcome-focused planning and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Experience in person-led support, enablement, or independent living services, with a focus on promoting autonomy, dignity, and practical life skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, including active listening, clear verbal and written communication, and respectful relationship-building with individuals and stakeholders.
  • Skills in organisation, time management, and routine planning to support individuals with daily structure, appointment attendance, and household tasks.
  • Knowledge or experience related to supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, or mental health needs in community-based settings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families, local authorities, commissioners, housing providers, and partner organisations to coordinate support.
  • Understanding of ethical practice, safeguarding principles, and professional boundaries within non-regulated support services.
  • Basic digital literacy for record-keeping, communication, and coordination of support plans.
  • Relevant training or qualifications in health and social care, support work, or community services are beneficial but not essential; willingness to undertake ongoing training is expected.
