Compliance & Energy Audit Consultant
Location: UK-wide, home-based with regular client site travel (London / Midlands)
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience, plus mileage, expenses and annual professional membership fees
The opportunity
We are working with a growing energy and sustainability consultancy to appoint a Compliance & Energy Audit Consultant to join its sustainability team. This newly created role offers significant ownership, leading energy compliance and site audit delivery across a varied UK client base while helping to develop the consultancy’s wider compliance offering. It would suit an experienced energy professional who combines strong technical expertise with client engagement and commercial awareness. You’ll have autonomy over your client portfolio and the opportunity to shape processes, grow the service area and turn compliance requirements into meaningful energy and carbon reduction opportunities.
You will work predominantly from home, with regular travel to client sites across the UK.
Key responsibilities
You will take ownership of energy compliance and audit delivery, including:
- Acting as ESOS Lead Assessor, scoping corporate groups, confirming compliance routes, signing off assessments and supporting submissions
- Planning and carrying out energy audits across buildings, industrial processes and transport
- Producing clear, evidence-based audit reports and practical recommendations
- Managing ongoing ESOS requirements, including action plans and annual progress updates
- Delivering ISO 50001 energy management systems, including gap analysis, implementation, internal audits and certification readiness
- Supporting clients with Climate Change Agreements
- Delivering SECR reporting where required
- Managing audit schedules across multiple clients and sites
- Keeping up to date with relevant regulatory developments and communicating these to clients
- Identifying opportunities for energy efficiency, renewable energy and wider decarbonisation projects from audit findings

Alongside technical delivery, you will have the opportunity to build strong relationships with energy, sustainability and finance stakeholders, identify additional compliance requirements across existing accounts, and contribute to proposals, pricing and client pitches.
About you
To be considered, you will need:

- To be a registered ESOS Lead Assessor on an approved register
- Proven experience delivering ESOS compliance audits and reports
- Hands-on energy and site auditing experience
- Confidence analysing energy data and translating findings into practical recommendations
- Strong technical report writing skills
- Experience working directly with clients
- The ability to manage your own diary, projects and deadlines independently
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits
If you are relatively new to working as a Lead Assessor, strong hands-on site auditing experience will also be considered.
Desirable experience:
- SECR reporting
- Climate Change Agreements
- ISO 50001 implementation or auditing
- Decarbonisation or net zero planning
- UK ETS or EU ETS
- Energy efficiency and renewable technologies, including solar PV, battery storage, voltage optimisation and EV charging
- Consultancy environments with responsibility for account growth or new business
- Professional membership with organisations such as the Energy Institute or CIBSE
