Job Description:

Energy Data Analyst

Department: Property Investment

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering Gentoo’s Asset Sustainability Strategy, supporting improvements to the energy performance of our existing homes and helping to reduce our operational carbon footprint.

Working closely with colleagues across the business, you’ll champion our environmental ambitions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our energy data and turning insight into action. From managing and validating performance data to supporting meaningful reporting, your work will directly influence how we understand, manage and improve the sustainability of our homes.

We recognise the importance of a positive work-life balance—our hybrid working model offers the flexibility of both office and home-based work. To support collaboration and innovation, you’ll be required to work from the office for part of the working week and be flexible to attend on-site meetings as needed.

What you will be doing:

  • Support the delivery of Gentoo’s Asset Sustainability Strategy, helping to reduce environmental impact and carbon emissions across the asset portfolio.
  • Analyse, maintain and validate energy data, producing regular performance reporting to support achievement of EPC Band C by 2030 and beyond.
  • Manage and continuously improve the Group’s energy systems and property-level data to ensure accuracy, integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with Property, Planning, Technical and Delivery teams to develop and deliver energy efficiency investment programmes.
  • Lead the collection of energy data across the Group, ensuring ad-hoc works and improvements are accurately captured and reported.
  • Support statutory and external reporting requirements, including SECR, ESG, Scope 3 emissions and ONS data requests.
  • Support the identification of external funding opportunities to enable delivery of energy efficiency improvements.
  • Act as a subject-matter point of reference, providing advice on energy efficiency, sustainability and renewable energy, while maintaining awareness of emerging legislation, policy and technology.

What you will bring:

  • Extensive experience of managing, manipulating and analysing large and complex datasets.
  • Experience in a data processing and analysis role, including working with financial information.
  • Proven ability to collate, interrogate and present financial and statistical data through clear reports and presentations.
  • Advanced IT skills, with strong expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (including formulas, pivot tables, Power Query and lookups).
  • Experience of developing and implementing effective processes, including robust data management practices.
  • Qualification in, or demonstrable experience of, data management using Microsoft Excel.
  • Maths and English at Grades A–C (or Level 2 Numeracy and Literacy), or equivalent experience.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present data and energy efficiency proposals clearly to a range of audiences.

It would be great if you had some of the following, however not essential:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject, or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the social housing sector, with an understanding of domestic energy efficiency and building performance data (including RdSAP).
  • Good working knowledge of energy legislation, regulation and best practice, alongside a genuine interest in environmental sustainability, climate policy and global climate challenges.
  • Background in domestic energy efficiency, with experience of researching, evaluating and supporting the delivery of energy efficiency projects and initiatives.
  • Experience of supporting grant-funded programmes and energy efficiency investment activity.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data and analytical tools, including Microsoft Power BI and SQL, with an awareness of programming languages such as Python.
