Purpose of the Role

The role is expected to deliver payback through avoided costs, efficiency improvements, and strengthened operational resilience. This position plays a key role in supporting the organisation’s sustainability strategy and long-term carbon reduction commitments.
Other Duties

- Support risk assessments and method statements for energy-related works.
- Ensure contractors and internal teams follow safe working practices during energy surveys, installations, and commissioning activities.
- Provide guidance to colleagues and site teams on energy best practices, championing a culture of sustainability and operational excellence.
- Support the Energy Efficiency Manager in coordinating cross-functional energy initiatives and influencing stakeholders toward positive behavioural change.
- Contribute to the creation and delivery of awareness campaigns, training, and operational guidance on energy efficiency.
- Assist with the identification, evaluation, and implementation of energy-saving initiatives to deliver measurable reductions in energy use and cost.
- Conduct ISO50001 energy audits, building performance reviews, and data analysis to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
- Monitor and report on energy performance using available systems, dashboards, and metering infrastructure.
- Support the preparation of business cases, funding applications, and performance reports to demonstrate initiatives value and ROI.
- Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, utilities, and service providers to ensure effective delivery of energy initiatives and continuous improvement.
- The role may require travel between operational sites to conduct surveys, inspections, and initiatives reviews.
- Occasional out-of-hours work may be required during system shutdowns, metering installations, or commissioning activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
