At Wates Property Services, sustainability sits at the heart of our business. As we continue to strengthen our environmental performance and support clients in achieving their carbon reduction ambitions, we are looking for an experienced Energy Manager to join our growing team.
This is a national role supporting projects and operational sites across the UK. While the position offers hybrid working, the successful candidate will be willing to travel nationally and ideally be based within easy reach of London.
The Role
As Energy Manager, you will lead energy and sustainability initiatives across our commercial property portfolio, helping to drive energy efficiency, carbon reduction and environmental performance improvements.
Working closely with operational teams, customers and senior stakeholders, you will provide expert advice on energy management, sustainability strategies and decarbonisation opportunities, ensuring WPS remains at the forefront of sustainable facilities management.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Developing and implementing energy reduction and sustainability strategies across multiple sites
- Monitoring, analysing and reporting on energy consumption, carbon emissions and environmental performance
- Identifying opportunities to improve building efficiency, reduce energy costs and enhance sustainability outcomes
- Supporting clients with their Net Zero, ESG and sustainability objectives
- Managing energy audits and recommending practical improvement initiatives
- Assessing the feasibility of low carbon and renewable energy technologies
- Producing detailed reports, data analysis and business cases to support investment decisions
- Ensuring compliance with relevant environmental legislation, standards and best practice
- Working collaboratively with FM operational teams to embed sustainable practices into day-to-day operations
- Supporting the delivery of environmental training and awareness programmes
- Keeping abreast of industry developments, legislation and emerging technologies

About You
We are looking for an experienced energy and sustainability professional with a passion for creating positive environmental impact within the built environment.
You'll Ideally Have
- Experience in an Energy Manager, Sustainability Manager or similar role
- Strong sustainability and energy management experience within commercial buildings
- Facilities Management sector experience (highly desirable)
- Knowledge of building performance, energy efficiency and decarbonisation strategies
- Experience analysing energy data and turning insight into practical solutions
- Understanding of renewable and low-carbon technologies
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
- Strong reporting, presentation and data analysis capabilities
- A proactive, commercially aware and solution-focused mindset
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree or professional qualification in Energy Management, Sustainability, Environmental Management or a related discipline
- CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessor, ESOS Lead Assessor, ISO 50001 or equivalent accreditation
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as Energy Institute, IEMA or CIBSE
