Energy Sales Lead Generator

£27,000 - £35,000 + Uncapped Commission (Y1 Average Earnings £100,000)

Gateshead | Full-time | Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm

In this role, you need to be sharp, hungry, and willing to learn how commercial sales actually work from the people who do it best. We don’t expect a decade of experience or a full contact book. Along the way, we’ll help you achieve both.

Northern Gas and Power's Lead Gen programme is where serious sales careers begin. You'll be trained from scratch by experienced commercial coaches and paired with a senior Closer, who'll mentor you through live deals. You will also receive ongoing support and motivation from your team manager.

At NGP, you're the front line of a business that helps some of the UK's biggest companies make smarter energy decisions, and you'll learn more about B2B sales in six months here than most people learn in a lifetime elsewhere.

What you'll actually be doing

  • Making outbound cold-calls to businesses to speak to their decision-makers including energy managers, finance directors, procurement leads and CEOs
  • Qualifying opportunities: understanding contract timelines, annual consumption, and decision-making processes
  • Booking qualified appointments and building a commercial pipeline for you and your Closer
  • Learning how energy procurement works from supplier negotiations, tender processes, to competitive market pricing
  • Working towards weekly and monthly targets that are challenging but achievable
  • Using CRM systems to manage your pipeline and track progress

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

In short, your job is to find the opportunities, build the relationships, and learn the mechanics of high-value B2B sales so that when you're ready, you can progress to Energy Consultant and beyond.

What's in it for you

  • Uncapped commission. Some of our new Lead Gens earned up to £100k+ in commission last year
  • Structured training programme. Not a one-week induction and 'good luck', but ongoing coaching, call reviews, and professional development to help you maximise your performance
  • A clear promotion path — many of NGP's senior Closers and Energy Consultants started as Lead Gens
  • 23 days holiday + additional December leave (December off) + bank holidays
  • Pension and access to Simplyhealth (money towards dental care, eyesight checks, physio, etc.)
  • Exciting incentives for excellent performers (so far this year, we’ve sent our people for VIP experiences to: Monaco Grand Prix, Tomorrowland, Champions League matches, Royal Ascot, Wimbledon to name a few…)
  • Daily cash incentives on the sales floor
  • A team environment where everyone celebrates wins

Your first 90 days

  • Weeks 1-2: Structured classroom and floor training — energy market fundamentals, objection handling, CRM, call structure. You'll shadow experienced agents and listen to live calls
  • Weeks 3-6: You're on the phones with direct support. Your Closer, your coach and your manager review your calls regularly. Targets are introduced but ramped gradually, as the focus is on quality, not volume
  • Weeks 9-12: You're now building your pipeline, your first deals are progressing through to close, and you’ll see commission hitting your payslip!

It's fast-paced and target-driven. Whilst not everyone thrives in this environment, the people who succeed go on to build careers that genuinely change their lives.

This is for you, if

  • You are a graduate, career-changer, or early on in your sales career and want industry-leading commercial training, with uncapped earning potential
  • You are competitive, resilient, and not afraid of the phone
  • You can manage a pipeline and are disciplined enough to hit targets
  • You want to be earning significantly more within 12 months and have the work ethic and hunger to make it happen
  • You have little-to-no energy sector experience. At NGP, your attitude, coachability, and pace matter more than the experience on your CV!
