Company Description
EnergyCloud.org works to divert surplus renewable energy, which would otherwise be wasted, to support people experiencing fuel poverty. EnergyCloud Scotland is part of a network of independent EnergyCloud organisations in England, Germany, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland that share common values and mission but are each separately incorporated, governed, and managed. Each organisation is solely responsible for its activities, operations, finances, governance, and legal obligations within its jurisdiction.
Role Description
The EnergyCloud Scotland Board Director is a volunteer role responsible for providing strategic leadership, oversight, and governance to support the organisation’s mission of tackling fuel poverty through surplus renewable energy solutions. The Director will participate in regular board meetings (usually online), review and approve strategic plans, policies, budgets, and help ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Day-to-day activities include contributing to discussions on organisational priorities, offering guidance to the executive or operational team, and monitoring performance against key outcomes. The Director will also act as an ambassador for EnergyCloud Scotland, helping to build relationships with community partners, funders, and stakeholders, and may support fundraising, advocacy, and public engagement activities.

- Strategic governance and leadership skills, including experience with non-profit boards, organisational oversight, and risk management.
- Financial and operational understanding, such as familiarity with budgeting, financial reports, and efficient use of resources in a mission-driven organisation.
- Stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to build partnerships, represent the organisation publicly, and communicate effectively with diverse communities.
- Knowledge or interest in renewable energy, fuel poverty, social impact, or community development, with a commitment to EnergyCloud’s mission and values.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid setting, balancing in-person board commitments in Scotland with remote participation.
- Previous experience as a director, trustee, or senior leader in non-profit, public, or private sectors is highly beneficial.
- Understanding of UK or Scottish charity/non-profit governance frameworks is an advantage.
