About Barnet Council

Barnet is a borough with much to be proud of. Our excellent schools, vibrant town centres, vast green spaces, and diverse communities all help make it a great place to live and work. As a council, we want to build on these strengths as we move into the future. We are growing and developing as an organisation to meet the challenges facing our borough and we are committed to working with partner organisations and residents to make Barnet even better. As an organisation, our staff are committed to Our Values: Learning to Improve, Caring, Inclusive, Collaborative – which drive everything we do.

About the role

Barnet Youth Justice Service (YJS) is looking to recruit two passionate and innovative Project Engage Youth Workers, who have experienced engaging with young people. The engage worker will work with young people who have been arrested and detained in the Police Station to support them at the “teachable and reachable moment” and provide an opportunity and space to reflect and plan changes in their life.

Project Engage is a tri-borough initiative between Barnet, Brent, and Harrow in coordination with Metropolitan Police and is funded by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) via Violence Reduction Unit. Project Engage is part of Family Services, Children’s Safeguarding directorate and located within the Youth Justice Service, whose aims is to reduce serious youth violence and ensure appropriate and targeted response via local interventions and provisions to divert them from offending or prevent them from becoming victims of crime or exploitation.

The Engage Youth Workers will be stationed in custody suites (Colindale and Wembley) to provide outreach youth support to children and young people who have been arrested. Our primary objective is to establish trusted relationships, offer a voluntary intervention that helps these young people avoid future involvement with the Youth Justice System. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term post and you will be part of the formal shift pattern (Early Day 8:00am-16:00pm and Early Night 12:00pm-20:00pm/ Shifts will be discussed in your interview)

As an Engage worker, you will be directly responsible for your caseload of young people, which includes:

  • Seeing young people at custody and in the community.
  • Completing and sharing detailed logs to the appropriate professionals in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring referrals and plans are completed, ensuring each case has a high level of recording on our internal systems.
  • Attending and presenting at Engage Panels (to support case management and direction).
  • Supporting the Engage team in networking and sourcing community organisations to be utilised by young people and the YJS.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
