Description

We are looking for an approachable, confident and enthusiastic person who enjoys meeting people, making connections and bringing communities together to help end homelessness in Cornwall.

This is a varied, people-focused role, building connections with community groups, schools, clubs, local businesses, volunteers and individuals who want to support St Petrocs. You will help people understand homelessness and the work of St Petrocs, and create opportunities for them to get involved – whether through volunteering, fundraising, events, challenges or community activities.

A key responsibility will be developing and growing community fundraising, helping supporters turn their enthusiasm, skills and connections into valuable support for St Petrocs.

You will also create opportunities for people experiencing homelessness to connect with our supporters and local communities, helping to build positive experiences, understanding and a stronger sense of community.

Working across Cornwall and alongside colleagues throughout St Petrocs, you will support community fundraising, volunteers and community-led projects to make a meaningful impact. You will lead St Petrocs’ community engagement, ensuring opportunities are well organised, enjoyable and purposeful.

What you will get from the role

This role offers the opportunity to connect with people from a wide range of communities across Cornwall, while gaining valuable experience across different areas of Engagement.

As part of a supportive Engagement team, you will develop your skills in community engagement, volunteering, fundraising, events and partnerships, while bringing your own ideas and contributing to projects. It is a role where you can build confidence, broaden your experience and take on new challenges, while seeing the difference your work makes to St Petrocs and the people we support.

Interviews are expected to take place on Tuesday 6th October.

Many of our staff work flexibly, including part-time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need. We can’t promise to give you exactly what you want, but we do promise not to judge you for asking.

Some evening and weekend work is required with this role due to the nature of engaging with communities, attending events and supporting volunteers and fundraisers.

A driving licence and the ability to drive will be required, as the role involves regular travel across Cornwall.

The application process involves the submission of a short video. Please apply directly at www.stpetrocs.org.uk/jobs, where you will find full details of the task. If you have any questions about this, please contact home@stpetrocs.org.uk.

What you'll be doing.

  • Build community relationships – develop St Petrocs’ presence across Cornwall by establishing and maintaining positive relationships with community groups, schools, clubs, local organisations and individuals. Help communities understand our work and develop opportunities for meaningful collaboration. Enable local businesses to support St Petrocs through volunteering, fundraising, partnerships and other forms of involvement, including through our Business Club.
  • Reach new audiences – identify communities, organisations and businesses we are not currently engaging with and develop creative approaches to reach them. Look for new ways to raise awareness of homelessness and introduce St Petrocs to people who may want to support our work.
  • Create opportunities to get involved – turn interest and enthusiasm into action by helping people get involved, whether through volunteering, fundraising, events, challenges, sharing skills and expertise, making connections or other forms of community involvement. Support community-led ideas and activities, helping people turn their ideas into positive opportunities for St Petrocs and the communities they are part of.
  • Develop and support volunteering– recruit and support St Petrocs’ Community Champions, helping them stay engaged and confident in promoting St Petrocs and encouraging others in their communities to get involved. Build relationships with local businesses and connect them with meaningful corporate volunteering opportunities. Work with St Petrocs teams to identify, develop and promote volunteering opportunities that meet the needs of our services and people we support.
  • Build ongoing community involvement – strengthen people's initial involvement with St Petrocs and help them find ways to stay connected. Work with Supporter Experience to make sure people are thanked, kept informed and supported to continue their involvement.
  • Grow community fundraising – identify and develop new fundraising opportunities with individuals, groups, schools, clubs, businesses and local organisations. Encourage people to develop their own fundraising ideas and provide the guidance and resources they need to turn those ideas into action, ensuring fundraising activity follows relevant regulations and St Petrocs’ policies.
  • Represent St Petrocs and share our work – be a confident and positive representative for St Petrocs at community meetings, local activities, events, networking opportunities and, where appropriate, through local media such as radio. Use these opportunities to raise our profile, share our message through engaging webinars, talks and presentations, and make new connections across Cornwall. Be a natural storyteller, using appropriate stories and examples to inspire people to understand homelessness and support St Petrocs’ mission.
  • Attend and support events – plan and coordinate St Petrocs community events and activities, taking responsibility for the arrangements before, during and after each event. Attend relevant events organised by St Petrocs and external organisations, including outside normal working hours where needed.
  • Track, report and share progress – maintain accurate records of community engagement, volunteering, fundraising activity and opportunities using St Petrocs’ CRM. Monitor and report on progress against agreed KPIs and strategic objectives. Share feedback from supporters and communities, as well as successes and learning, with the Engagement team.
  • Connect and collaborate – work closely with colleagues across St Petrocs and within the Engagement team to plan activity, share information and make the most of opportunities. Contribute to wider projects and ensure that community engagement connects effectively with other areas of our work.
  • Carry out any other duties as reasonably requested.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You will be confident representing St Petrocs and talking to different audiences, whether that is delivering a presentation, meeting a community group, speaking with a business or encouraging someone to volunteer or fundraise.

You will be comfortable working independently, managing your own workload and looking for opportunities rather than waiting for them to come to you. You will notice possibilities, ask questions, make connections and think about how a conversation or introduction could develop into something more.

You don't need to have worked in a charity or community engagement role before. What matters most is your ability to connect with people, spot opportunities and turn ideas into action. Your experience might come from community engagement, volunteering, fundraising, events, partnerships, education, sales, customer-facing work or another role where you have developed strong communication and people skills.
