Location: Albert Road with the flexibility to attend various other sites dependant on business need.

Salary: £40,000 per annum

Hours: 08:00-16:00 or 09:00-17:00 Monday - Friday

The Role Purpose

To strengthen Bristol Waste’s reputation as a sector leader by delivering impactful engagement projects and initiatives, ensuring clear and positive communication with our customers and stakeholders, improving customer experience, and working in partnership with communities to address complex environmental and street-scene challenges.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee community engagement activities, ensuring they contribute to the business’s objectives
  • Work directly with residents and other stakeholder groups to resolve service issues, increase recycling, promote reuse, and reduce residual waste
  • Share insights and best practice to drive continuous improvement
  • Identify new opportunities for engagement and education within the City
  • Monitor the performance and impact of engagement initiatives and projects, and coordinate regular reporting to the Head of Sustainability and Customer Engagement
  • Collaborate with operational and support teams to deliver high quality, value for money services, resolve service issues swiftly and ensure a good customer experience
  • Engage with Marketing & Communications on internal and external communications to raise environmental awareness across Bristol and within BWC and support sharing of key engagement messages
  • Manage the team of Engagement Officers, mobilising skills and experience to have the biggest impact, and develop a high performing team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across communities, partners, local authorities, volunteers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Proven project delivery experience, including planning and delivering engagement activities that achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear reports, presentations, and messages.
  • Creative problem-solver who can use initiative, judgement, and behaviour change principles to drive engagement and positive outcomes.
  • Highly organised, results-driven, and able to work independently, prioritise workloads, and meet deadlines.
  • Good financial awareness and strong ICT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to develop financial models where required.
  • Knowledge of sustainability, environmental issues, waste and recycling, and the carbon agenda, supported by a valid driving licence and the ability to motivate others towards shared goals.
