Role Description
The Engagement Officer is a volunteer role based in Poole with a hybrid working arrangement, combining on-site activities with some work from home. Day-to-day responsibilities include engaging with unpaid carers, listening to their experiences, and signposting them to appropriate services and resources. The role involves supporting outreach events, community meetings, and campaigns designed to raise awareness of carers’ needs and promote available support. The Engagement Officer will help maintain relationships with local organisations and partners, gather feedback to inform service improvements, and contribute to communication materials such as newsletters or social media updates. The role also includes maintaining accurate records of interactions, supporting group activities or workshops, and collaborating with the wider team to strengthen the local carer support network.

- Strong interpersonal, active listening, and empathy skills to build trust and rapport with unpaid carers from diverse backgrounds.
- Community engagement, outreach, and relationship-building skills to collaborate effectively with local organisations, businesses, and stakeholders.
- Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to contribute to newsletters, social media, and awareness campaigns in a clear, accessible manner.
- Organisational and time-management skills to coordinate events, manage caseloads or contacts, and keep accurate records of engagement activities.
- IT skills, including use of email, online collaboration tools, and data entry systems, with the ability to work independently in a hybrid environment.
- Understanding of or interest in unpaid caring roles, health and social care, or community support services; prior experience in a support, advocacy, or volunteer role is beneficial.
