Role & Responsibilities
The Engine Test Technician, reporting to the Head of Manufacturing, will work with external suppliers and internal teams to define all the test requirements of the production engine. You will act as primary contact point for all engine test cell activities across Caudwell Marine to ensure the development, knowledge, and commission of our initial and ongoing products. You will support the Manufacturing Operations and Engineering Design in identifying and advising on testing solutions to meet test cell cycle requirement, quality targets and our customer needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the production engine test cell, ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe testing activity.
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and quality procedures, including risk assessments and implementation of corrective actions.
- Validate engine performance, fluid conditioning, and cell systems within the test cell environment.
- Execute automated and manual engine test cycles, supporting increasingly complex test requirements alongside Engineering teams.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, working with Engineering to deliver fast, effective resolutions.
- Take full ownership of test pieces, equipment, and hardware, ensuring consistent performance and availability.
- Analyse test data, validate results, and influence design decisions through robust feedback and reporting.
- Lead initiatives to improve manufacturing Right First Time (RFT) and First Time Through (FFT) metrics through in-process testing.
- Support external testing partners, contributing to root cause investigations and continuous improvement of testing methods.
- Monitor key test performance indicators (KPIs), maintain calibration standards, and identify opportunities for process and measurement system optimisation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
