Engineer I-Sr
Work Place Flexibility: Hybrid Legal Entity: Entergy Services, LLC
This position can be filled as an Engineer I – Sr depending on qualifications.
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
- Responsible for performing a wide variety of planning, analysis, and project-oriented engineering activities related to ensuring available capacity and risk mitigation within the electrical distribution system in accordance with the Entergy grid modernization strategy.
- Oversee responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Develop and maintain the distribution five-year plan and the Joint Transmission and Distribution component of the Transmission plan.
- Support Transmission Planning and Project Development for high-voltage project optimization.
- Serve as the Distribution Planning liaison to:
- Transmission project management,
- Project design (Transmission & Distribution),
- Asset Management Program Design.
- Provide technical support to distribution engineers, operations, and managed accounts.
- Perform circuit coordination studies in collaboration with the distribution automation team.
- Maintain the SynerGi distribution system analysis model and perform load flow analysis to preemptively address potential system issues and develop projects for solutions.
- Engage with large customers (internal & external) to assess electric needs and feasibility of service.
- Develop and update Emergency/Contingency Switching Plans for the assigned responsibility area.
- Collaborate directly with customers proposing larger Distributed Generation additions to the system as a Distributed technical advisor.
- Participate in routine, non-routine, and emergency storm-restoration efforts, including storm outage event addressing.
- Optimize cross-functional projects with grid/system design, operations, maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, software applications, and root cause failure analysis.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and track peak substation and circuit loads while performing annual load flow analysis using load forecasting models for substations, feeder circuits, and local loads.
- Conduct annual overload, voltage, power factor, and contingency studies.
- Develop and propose substation & distribution-specific normal-load-driven and N-1 contingency projects (blanket or specific).
- Offer technical guidance to Engineering Design Group, Operations, and Distribution Operations Center via the proactive development & maintenance of emergency/contingency switching plans.
- Lead project management for planned improvements through modeling, load tracking, and alternative analysis.
- Decide, review, and propose electrical system solutions that satisfy customer needs while complying with company standards to optimize performance and reliability.
- Attend meetings with external customers, architects, developers, contractors, and regulatory authorities to discuss standards & guidelines.
- Conduct engineering calculations to assist in planning and corrective measure projects.
- Assist with storm restoration efforts, generally in Scout or Lead Scout roles during storm emergencies and support technical/operational tasks in emergencies or crew leadership.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Chemical) from a four-year accredited institution.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience
- Engineer I: 0–2 years in an engineering discipline.
- Engineer II: 2+ years in an engineering discipline.
- Engineer III: 4+ years in an engineering discipline.
- Engineer Sr: 6+ years in an engineering discipline.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Technical mastery of engineering principles.
- In-depth understanding of procedures, standards, and programs in responsible areas.
- Consistently prioritizes engineering value in decision-making.
- Mentors junior engineers and technical professionals.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional written & oral communication skills.
- Outstanding math & project management ability.
- Proficient with personal computer operations & related software.
- Familiarity with National Electrical Safety Code and National Electrical Code.
