Job Title: Engineer Metrology / CMM – Vehicles

Job Title for Contract: Engineer (B2) – Vehicles

Grade: Band 2

Salary: Circa £43,000 (dependent on skill, knowledge and experience)

Contract Type: TfL Permanent / Full Time / Hybrid

Location: Hearne House, Acton (including various TfL sites across London)

Reference: SF5030

Hybrid working, within this role enables a balance of 50% of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

Overview of Role

Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. Join us in the Vehicles Engineering Technical Services team as a Band 2 Engineer, where you will play a key role in ensuring our assets remain safe, reliable and fit for the future, while supporting the delivery of new systems and engineering solutions.

You will work across a wide range of engineering assets and projects, delivering reverse engineering and inspection solutions using advanced measurement technologies.

You will be responsible for carrying out metrology, inspection and reverse engineering activities, ensuring outputs meet safety, quality and business requirements. You will be expected to operate various types of measurement equipment (measurement arms and 3D scanners) to capture reliable data. This data will provide the basis for producing inspection reports to validate safety critical components or support creation of 3D CAD models. You will be expected to support the maintenance, calibration and correct application of all equipment.

Skills

Skills, Knowledge & Experience (Essential, unless stated Desirable)

  • Ability to Interpret engineering drawings and written specifications
  • Ability to carry out inspection procedures/programmes to produce reliable results
  • Ability to develop and validate measurement/inspection processes (Desirable)
  • CAD modelling or reverse engineering experience
  • Good analytical skills, with an ability to identify problems and a proactive approach to solving them
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Knowledge

  • Understanding of measurement/inspection techniques and fundamental metrology principles
  • Competent in the use of a range of inspection equipment and measurement systems
  • 3D CAD Modelling including reverse engineering with various data sources
  • Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) (Desirable)
  • Awareness of relevant industry standards and best practice

Experience

  • Experience of measurement, inspection and reporting
  • Experience working with Zeiss Inspect, Geomagic Control X, CAM2 or similar inspection software (Desirable)
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Geomagic Design X or similar CAD/reverse engineering software (Desirable)
  • Experience working in operational or maintenance environments, following safe systems of work
  • Experience supporting projects or complex engineering activities with multiple interfaces
