Some of the key day to day tasks of the role include:

• Provide technical assurance and appraisal of supplier bridge assessment reports.
• Check quality, challenge assumptions and ensure processes meet required standards.
• Support Route Asset teams with clear, practical technical advice.
• Use Network Rail's asset management system (NEST) to maintain accurate records and strengthen asset intelligence.
• Help manage risk and inform decisions on maintenance and strengthening, contributing to continuous improvement within an expert and supportive team.

Package: This role sits within Band 4C, salary range £43,588 - £53,167 Depending on experience.

Location: The successful candidate can be based in Network Rail offices in Manchester, Square 1, 4 Travis Street, M1 2NY.

As this is a role in a regional team, occasional travel across NW&C is required.

Your Experience And Skills

What you'll be also be doing:

In this role you will provide specialist technical expertise to support the safe, reliable and efficient management of structural assets across the railway. You will also support the development of asset strategies, products and operational processes, ensuring compliance with Network Rail standards, legislation and industry best practice. In addition, you will take ownership of specific projects or project portfolios, delivering work safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards while maintaining accurate records and supporting engineering verification activities.

What You'll Have

• You'll have a degree background in civil or structural engineering
• Strong experience and understanding of bridge behaviour and assessment principles
• You'll be confident applying engineering judgement, able to review and challenge constructively, and comfortable working collaboratively across Routes and disciplines
• Sound knowledge of relevant policies and standards
• An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques

We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:

• Chartership or progress toward professional accreditation
• Knowledge or experience of advanced analytical techniques - including non-linear finite element analysis
• Project management experience and awareness of project management techniques
• Railway industry experience
