Full-time, permanent | 40 hours per week, normally Monday to Friday

£47,500 for experienced Engineer Surveyors

Training opportunities starting at £42,000, rising to £47,500

Carn Engineering is a growing, independent inspection company. We are looking for an Engineer Surveyor to join our team, providing thorough examinations and inspections that help our customers keep their equipment and workplaces safe.

We welcome applications from experienced Engineer Surveyors and experienced mechanical or plant engineers looking to move into inspection.

The role

Working at customer premises across Northern Ireland, you will:

  • Carry out thorough examinations and inspections of work equipment within your areas of competence and authorisation.
  • Inspect a varied range of machinery, including MEWPs, telehandlers, forklifts and other lifting equipment, pressure equipment and local exhaust ventilation systems.
  • Identify defects, assess their significance and clearly explain your findings to customers.
  • Produce accurate, timely reports using our digital reporting system.
  • Organise your workload and build professional relationships with customers.
  • Maintain high technical and professional standards.

What we’re looking for

  • A relevant engineering qualification, such as an HNC, HND or degree. Candidates with an NVQ Level 3 and relevant practical experience will also be considered.
  • Strong practical experience in mechanical engineering, plant maintenance, servicing, repair or inspection.
  • Sound engineering judgement and attention to detail.
  • Clear communication and report-writing skills.
  • The ability to work independently, supported by an experienced technical team.
  • A full driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites.
  • IPAF CAP certification would be advantageous.

Previous Engineer Surveyor experience is welcomed. For engineers moving into inspection, we provide structured training, mentoring and supervised practical experience.

Salary, training and career development

  • Experienced Engineer Surveyors: £47,500 per year.
  • Engineers entering the profession: £42,000 per year during a structured training programme, expected to take approximately six months. Your salary will increase to £47,500 following successful completion of training, competency assessment and authorisation to inspect independently.
  • For suitable NVQ Level 3 candidates, there is also a potential opportunity for further development and support to complete an HNC, helping you build your qualifications and progress your engineering career.
