Engineering & Maintenance Manager

Location: West Midlands
Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Salary: Competitive + Benefits

An established organisation operating within the recycling and resource management sector is looking to appoint an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the engineering and maintenance function at a key operational site in the West Midlands.

This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for driving plant reliability, maintenance performance, engineering standards, and continuous improvement across a busy processing environment.

The Role

Working closely with Operations and other site functions, you will take ownership of the engineering and maintenance function, with responsibilities including:

  • Leading and developing the site's engineering and maintenance function
  • Developing and delivering planned, preventative and condition-based maintenance strategies
  • Managing breakdown response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Implementing and optimising CMMS systems, PPM schedules, and asset management processes
  • Using engineering KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, and PPM compliance to improve plant reliability
  • Managing critical spares, inventory, and equipment obsolescence
  • Managing engineering contractors, RAMS, Permit to Work, and contractor performance
  • Supporting engineering projects, plant improvements, and Capex works
  • Managing maintenance budgets and controlling engineering expenditure
  • Driving continuous improvement across plant reliability, efficiency, and maintenance standards
  • Ensuring engineering activities comply with relevant health, safety, and statutory requirements

About You

We're looking for an experienced engineering or maintenance professional from recycling, waste processing, aggregates, FMCG, or a comparable heavy industrial/process environment. Ideally, you'll have:

  • A time-served Electrical or Mechanical Engineering background, ideally HNC/HND or equivalent
  • Previous experience leading an engineering or maintenance function within a continuous production/process environment
  • Strong knowledge of planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance
  • Experience with equipment such as conveyors, shredders, separators, motors, drives, and associated process equipment
  • Practical knowledge of sensors, VSDs, and PLC fault-finding
  • Strong CMMS and maintenance planning experience
  • Experience managing contractors and delivering engineering or Capex projects
  • Good knowledge of PUWER, LOLER, LOTO, Permit to Work, risk assessments, and RAMS
  • Strong fault-finding, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement skills

Experience with DSEAR/ATEX, PLC/HMI diagnostics, ISO management systems, HV systems, or Lean/TPM methodologies would be advantageous.
