About the Role
This apprenticeship is the best possible platform to grow into an engineering career. The employee will spend time working with each engineering and production aspect such as Assembly, Production Engineering, Engineering design, and the Innovation Team to fully grow their knowledge which will help support Oxford Flow in the future.
In Production (6-month rotation)
- Assembly of valves
- Testing using hydro and pneumatic tests
- Completion of job cards
Production Engineering (6-month rotation)
- Jig design
- Test station design
- Production improvements utilising lean manufacturing tools
- Fault finding to route cause
- Production scheduling
Engineering Design (6-month rotation)
- Design scaling using SolidWorks
- Drawing creation to aid manufacture
- 3D printing test components
Innovation Team (6-month rotation)
- Bluesky design
- Testing
- CFD
- PFMEA
- Testing prototype units
- Report creation
The apprentice will gain skills such as SolidWorks design, 3D printing, assembly skills, manufacturing engineering skills such as route cause analysis, lean tools, etc.
Once complete, the apprentice will be able to use all the gathered skills in all future employment.
Working and Training Details
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

Engineering operative (level 2)
Duration
13-months practical training period, plus 3-months for End Point Assessment
Delivery Model
- Work-based training with your employer
- Day release during term time (approximately 2-days a week for 1-year)
- Regular meetings with your training coordinator to monitor progress and well-being
- Off the job training will count for at least 6-hours a week of an apprentice’s time at work

- Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills)
- Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations (Knowledge)

Apprenticeship Onboarding Session and Eligibility Checks
Any new person applying for apprenticeship roles where Abingdon & Witney College deliver the training will be required to complete some eligibility checks. This will consist of a series of initial assessments and an interview with the team.
There will be the opportunity to find out more about the apprenticeship process, the training included, and for any questions you might have. You may also be required to attend an Apprenticeship Onboarding Session at Witney, Abingdon or Bicester campus.
This will consist of a series of initial assessments (required prior to any apprenticeship offer), completion of essential paperwork, the opportunity to find out more about the apprenticeship process, the training included, and a forum for your questions.

Qualification Checks

We make every effort to ensure that applicants from non-traditional academic backgrounds or those who may not have the formal GCSE entry requirements can access apprenticeships where possible.
Salary and Benefits
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £8.00 per hour from April 2026. This applies to 16 - 18-year-old apprentices and those aged 19 and over during the first year of their apprenticeship. After this, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Essential Qualifications
GCSE in:
- English and Maths (grade A* to C / Level 9 - 4)
Desirable Qualifications
A Level in:
- Physics and/or Maths (grade A* to D)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
