Engineering Director – Capital Equipment / Machinery Manufacturing

£80,000-£100,000 + bonus of up to 15% + private healthcare & benefits.

Location: Greater Manchester

Are you an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in the design and manufacture of high-value capital equipment?

This is an opportunity to take responsibility for a multidisciplinary engineering function covering Mechanical Design, Electrical Engineering and Project Management. You will provide the strategic direction, technical leadership and operational structure needed to develop the team and improve the delivery of complex capital-equipment projects.

The role requires more than high-level strategic oversight. You will remain close enough to the engineering and project activity to understand the challenges, support your managers and team leaders, and provide informed technical direction when needed.

THE ROLE

As Engineering Director, you will:

  • Set and deliver the engineering strategy in line with the company’s wider objectives.
  • Lead and develop the Design, Projects, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering teams.
  • Oversee the engineering delivery of high-value capital-equipment projects.
  • Manage departmental capacity, workloads, priorities and resources.
  • Ensure projects meet the required technical, quality, commercial and delivery standards.
  • Introduce engineering best practices that improve productivity, consistency and efficiency.
  • Establish and manage departmental KPIs.
  • Strengthen engineering processes, design controls and project governance.
  • Recruit, mentor and develop employees at all levels of the engineering team.
  • Work closely with customers, sales, manufacturing, supply chain and third-party manufacturing partners.
  • Provide senior technical support when complex engineering or project challenges arise.
  • Contribute to wider business strategy and senior-management decision-making.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
