Head of Data Engineering & Data Hub (Hands-on Engineering Lead)
Here at Precision AQ, we are building a Data Hub—a centralized platform team responsible for:
- Consolidating legacy data infrastructure
- Establishing an enterprise data foundation and governance
- Enabling AI/ML capabilities across the organization
Moved from strategy to execution, we now need a technical leader to build and run the team.
Job Summary
This is a hands-on engineering leadership role. You’ll:
- Stand up and scale a high-performing team of data engineers, analytics engineers, and platform engineers
- Own day-to-day engineering operations: sprint delivery, technical quality, and capacity planning
- Drive technical excellence: architecture decisions, DevOps/GitOps, production reliability, and code quality
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for blockers, cross-team dependencies, and delivery risks
- Partner with the SVP on hiring, team development, vendor relationships, and strategic planning
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Team Leadership
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team (data engineers, analytics engineers, and platform engineers)
- Set expectations, run 1:1s, and manage performance
- Foster a culture where strong engineers thrive, grow, and stay
- Be accountable for output, quality, and team morale
Sprint Delivery & Capacity Management
- Lead Agile delivery cadence: sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives
- Manage concurrent workstreams (platform build, migrations, feature development)
- Ensure commitments are realistic, measurable, and delivered on time
Technical Design & Architecture
- Lead technical design reviews and plateform engineering
- Enforce scalable, maintainable, and governed solutions aligned with our medallion data architecture
- Review code, debug production issues, and make sound architectural judgments

Engineering Quality & Standards
- Establish and enforce best practices:
- Code review and branching strategy
- CI/CD, testing, and documentation
- Incident management
Partner with SVP
- Collaborate on hiring and onboarding
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Cross-team technical interface with Insights Hub, Evidence Solutions, Product Solutions, and IT
- Translate business requirements into technical scope
- Manage dependencies with Corporate IT, Security, and external vendors
- Early escalation of blockers to minimise delays
Platform Operations & Reliability
- Ensure production systems meet SLAs
- Define monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes
- Uphold production reliability while balancing delivery demands
Required Experience & Education
Core Qualifications
✔ 5+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or platform engineering (on-prem or cloud) ✔ 3+ years leading engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and delivery accountability ✔ First-hand experience with a modern data stack:
- Cloud data warehouses (with Snowflake preference)
- Transformation frameworks
- Orchestration tools (Airflow, or comparable) ✔ Track record of delivering:
- Complex data platform migrations
- Legacy system consolidations
- Greenfield builds ✔ Experience in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments (e.g., healthcare, pharma, finance) ✔ Hands-on ability to:
- Review code and debug production issues
- Make sound architectural decisions
