As an Engineering Fitter Operative Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining the practical skills and technical knowledge needed to become a competent engineering fitter.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will:

  • Assemble, install, maintain, repair, and test a wide range of mechanical equipment and engineering systems.
  • Develop an understanding of engineering drawings, safe working practices, quality standards, and the use of a variety of hand and power tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and fit mechanical components and engineering systems
  • Carry out planned maintenance, repairs, and fault finding on machinery and equipment
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructions
  • Use a range of hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment safely and accurately
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of engineering equipment
  • Ensure all work is completed to company quality standards and health and safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
  • Work as part of a team while developing the confidence to complete tasks independently
  • Complete college work and evidence required for your apprenticeship programme

Training course

Engineering operative (level 2)

Training schedule

This is a level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship (mechanical pathway) delivered over a period of 15 months. The apprentice will be required to attend the training centre 1 day per week during this period - In-Comm Training Services in Telford, TF3 3AJ.

More training information

You must be able to travel to Halesfield in Telford to start work for 7.30am. There is a bus stop close by and free car parking.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English
  • Maths (grade 4)

With many years of experience manufacturing special purpose machines, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the MHE industry, CAPS are uniquely placed to offer innovative solutions covering all battery handling requirements. The success of the company has come from the ability to offer complete Battery handling solutions including ventilation, electrics and mechanical installation. Providing the batteries and chargers and they do the rest. They design, manufacture and assembly offering a complete turnkey project, managed from start to finish.

Successful completion of the Engineering Fitter Operative Apprenticeship could lead to a permanent position as a qualified Engineering Fitter within the company. As your skills and experience develop, there may be opportunities to progress into specialist areas such as maintenance engineering, installation and commissioning, mechanical assembly, or machine build. The company also supports ongoing professional development, with opportunities to gain further engineering qualifications and progress into senior engineering, team leader, supervisory, or management roles.
