Geolabs Limited supports clients across the geotechnical and construction sectors, helping them make informed engineering and design decisions. Geolabs also runs a comprehensive testing proficiency scheme, actively contributing to raising industry standards and promoting best practice.

Role Description

Geolabs Limited is seeking Engineering Geologists to join our team at our Head Office and laboratories in Watford. The role involves laboratory testing and core and sample logging in a large soils and rocks laboratory, with work completed to high standards of safety, quality, and technical accuracy.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Undertake laboratory testing and core and sample logging efficiently and reliably, in accordance with national standards, technical procedures, and Geolabs’ health, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Train, coach, and support laboratory technicians, and assess their competence to carry out laboratory tests safely and correctly.
  • Work with the Technical Management Team to develop and improve methods and working practices that increase laboratory efficiency.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is fully functional, calibrated, and fit for purpose.
  • Support laboratory accreditation, promote good QA/QC practices, and comply with the Geolabs Limited Quality Manual.

Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification in Engineering Geology, Geology, Geotechnics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Practical experience describing and logging soil and rock samples.
  • Previous experience working in a geotechnical laboratory and carrying out laboratory testing in accordance with national standards or technical procedures would be advantageous.
  • Excellent practical skills, together with strong teamwork, coaching, and mentoring skills; good numeracy and literacy; and strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
  • A proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude is essential.
