Group Engineering Manager / Director

Hull | £80,000 to £100,000 depending on level | 3 to 4 days on site

This is not a role for someone who wants to manage one engineering team and keep things ticking over.

The business has multiple engineering sites and needs someone to help bring them together properly.

The Challenge

The challenge is around standards, engineering consistency, capability and how different sites work together. That means looking at everything from design and commissioning processes through to machine wiring, documentation, team development and continuous improvement.

You would not be there to become the person dragged into every technical problem on every machine. There are people closer to the projects for that. This role sits above that level.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Responsibilities

You would be responsible for helping create a more consistent engineering function across the wider group, developing teams, improving processes and making sure each site has a genuine voice in how engineering evolves.

There is also a significant integration piece to the role, so experience bringing engineering teams, standards or businesses together would be particularly useful.

The Background

The background matters.

You will probably already be working at Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering, Engineering Director or Technical Director level within automation, bespoke machinery or special purpose machine building.

You will need to understand the realities of design, build, commissioning and assembly well enough to challenge experienced engineers and make sensible decisions.

You should also have led a reasonably substantial engineering team, ideally 15+ people, and have evidence of introducing better standards, Lean initiatives or continuous improvement rather than simply maintaining what was already there.

The Role

The role will be based from the outskirts of Hull around 3 to 4 days per week, with periodic travel to other engineering sites.

Salary will depend on where you sit between Engineering Manager and Director level, with scope towards £100,000 for the right person.

If the location works and you have spent your career around complex automation or machine building, it is worth a conversation.

Get in touch and I’ll talk you through the business, the role and what they are trying to change.
