Referment is working with an AI-powered B2B marketing technology company building a platform for personalised campaigns, contact-level engagement insight, and sales activation.
This is a player-coach leadership role taking day-to-day ownership of Engineering from a technical founder. You will initially remain hands-on while building context and credibility, then increase your focus on team performance, hiring, and the systems that help engineers move quickly. The remit combines technical leadership, people development, and product judgement.
The Role
- Own engineering performance across delivery speed, code quality, reliability, and the product experience expected by enterprise customers.
- Grow the engineering team and run hiring end to end, from process design and interviewing through to closing candidates.
- Coach engineers, develop emerging leaders, and create team structures that support ownership and progression.
- Contribute directly to architecture, complex features, and the most demanding technical problems.
- Improve CI/CD, testing, developer tooling, and infrastructure so the whole team can deliver more effectively.
- Work closely with founders and Product to shape the roadmap and connect technical choices to customer and business outcomes.

What We’re Looking For
- Evidence of leading and scaling a high-performing engineering team, including hiring and developing strong individual contributors.
- Continued strength as a hands-on technical contributor on production systems at scale.
- Experience setting a culture of ownership, delivery, and engineering craft.
- Strong product judgement and an ability to help engineers understand why work matters to customers.
- Technical depth relevant to Go, TypeScript, and React, cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP, and modern data or event systems.

The role is best suited to someone who actively wants the balance to shift over time from individual contribution toward enablement and organisational leadership.
This could suit an experienced Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering, or hands-on technical leader who has already built a team and wants direct ownership of both its performance and its technical foundations.
