Role: Engineering Lead
Technology: Materials Application Engineer for Gas Turbine Components
Employment Type: Full-time Permanent
Location: Derby/Bristol, UK
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical and expert materials advice across the Engine programmes for engineering development, production manufacturing, and in-service activities.
- Support design to select the right materials & processes and identify the corresponding materials, process, and quality specifications & standards for New Products Introduction (NPI), Fleet, and Mods.
- Approve component and design definitions such that the finished part meets all safety and quality standards.
- Support manufacturing supply chain for production non-conformance management by sentencing concessions & deviation permits, approving definition alteration requests.
- Write component approval packages and support alternate materials and processes application.
- Support maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) for in-service non-conformance management by sentencing technical variances, approving repair schemes/procedures, and repair manual revisions.
- Support application of various special processes, such as heat treatment, forging, casting, welding, brazing, coating, peening, non-conventional machining, etc.
- Provide material application engineering support on coatings materials, processes, testing, and evaluation requirements for gas turbine components.
- Create/revise Materials, Processes, and Quality specifications and standards.
- Support design of material test programmes, analysis of test data, and generating material databases for supporting future product designs.
- Support REACH materials compliance management by performing part to specification to substance mapping.
- Support GrantaMI materials database management and development.
- Develop self and act as a local technical lead for the team by gaining necessary technical delegations from the client through demonstration of required engineering technical competency.
- Participate in technical discussions with customers to understand project specifications and technical requirements.
- Ensure proper knowledge, information, and technical data management for the projects and/or the services offered in line with the company/customer policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the other engineering teams to identify opportunities for product improvement and development.

- Should have many years of working experience on Turbomachinery products like Gas Turbine for Power and/or Aviation industry.
- In-depth knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, coatings & their functionalities (e.g., corrosion/oxidation resistance, thermal protection).
- Prior experience / knowledge of Gas Turbine product / components - design, lifing & stress requirements, and Aviation industry is preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and quality control procedures.
- Experience with non-destructive testing methods. NDT Level-II and above is preferred.
- Innovate and challenge the status quo whilst maintaining high standards of process compliance and product safety.
- Interest in mentorship for junior or mid-level engineers.
