Engineering Lead - Mechanical

University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire

Coventry (with occasional travel to Rugby)

Mitie is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Lead to join the engineering team supporting University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW), one of the largest and most complex acute healthcare estates in the Midlands. This role has been created as part of a wider investment in engineering capability and will act as the recognised mechanical technical authority across the estate.

Some engineering roles take you away from the technical work you enjoy. This isn't one of them.

We're looking for an engineer who wants to remain hands-on whilst providing technical leadership across a critical environment where reliability, compliance and operational resilience are essential. You'll be the person engineering teams turn to when faced with complex technical challenges, helping to shape engineering standards, improve asset performance and ensure continuity across a busy 24/7 healthcare environment.

The Opportunity

Working within one of Mitie's most significant healthcare contracts, you'll provide expert guidance across complex mechanical systems, support critical engineering decisions and act as the senior technical escalation point for mechanical services across the estate.

This is a technical specialist position rather than a people management role, making it ideal for someone who enjoys solving engineering problems, influencing best practice and remaining close to the operational delivery of engineering services.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Acting as the recognised Mechanical Subject Matter Expert across the contract.
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex and critical mechanical engineering issues.
  • Providing technical assurance and engineering guidance to operational teams.
  • Supporting compliance, asset management and lifecycle planning activities.
  • Leading root cause analysis investigations and implementing permanent solutions.
  • Developing technical standards, procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Mentoring and coaching engineering teams to improve technical capability.
  • Participating in the senior technical on-call and escalation rota.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
