HNC/HND Engineering Lecturer – Mechanical or Electrical

We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Lecturer / Engineer to deliver HNC and HND level engineering programmes, with opportunities available across Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

This is a primarily classroom-based role, focused on delivering the engineering theory, mathematics and principles that underpin a successful engineering career. You’ll be teaching learners who are progressing through higher-level engineering qualifications, helping them understand the theory behind the systems, processes and technologies they encounter in industry.

The Role

You’ll deliver engaging, technically accurate teaching across HNC/HND Engineering programmes, covering areas such as:

  • Engineering Science
  • Engineering Mathematics
  • Engineering Principles
  • Mechanical Engineering Principles
  • Electrical and Electronic Principles
  • Engineering Systems
  • Technical problem solving
  • Applied engineering theory

The role will involve:

  • Planning and delivering classroom-based HNC/HND lessons
  • Teaching complex engineering theory and principles in a clear and practical way
  • Developing lesson plans, presentations and learning resources
  • Supporting learners with assignments, projects and technical development
  • Assessing learner work and providing constructive feedback
  • Monitoring learner progress and supporting successful completion of their qualifications
  • Linking engineering theory to real-world industrial applications
  • Keeping subject knowledge and teaching content aligned with current engineering practice
  • Creating a positive, professional and engaging learning environment

About You

You’ll have a strong technical background and be confident delivering higher-level engineering theory to learners.

You could currently be working as an:

  • HNC/HND Lecturer
  • Engineering Lecturer
  • Further Education Lecturer
  • Engineering Tutor
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Design Engineer
  • Controls Engineer
  • Manufacturing Engineer
  • Engineering Trainer

Alternatively, you may be an experienced engineer who has moved into technical training and now wants to focus on higher-level classroom delivery.

You’ll need:

  • A relevant HNC, HND, degree or equivalent higher-level engineering qualification
  • Strong technical knowledge in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • A good understanding of Engineering Mathematics, Science and Principles
  • Experience working in engineering, education, training or technical delivery
  • The ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desirable

  • Teaching or training qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent
  • Previous experience delivering HNC/HND Engineering
  • Experience within Further Education
  • Assessor or IQA qualification
  • Experience developing engineering learning materials and assessments

Teaching qualifications are not essential if you have the right engineering background and experience. Full support can be provided to gain a recognised teaching qualification.
