Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

• Providing leadership across all facets of engineering and design activities within their sector, delivering projects to meet cost, programme and quality requirements.
• Ensuring that all projects comply with the organisation's Design Management and Assurance Procedures and Quality Management System.
• Ensuring design reviews are carried out in line with current standards to ensure buildability and constructability.
• Identifying any weaknesses or errors in the design that could jeopardise functionality and ensuring HSE best practices are consistently followed.
• Developing and managing effective communication and liaison with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure that requirements are identified, assessed and appropriately integrated into the project.
• Overseeing the highest standards of health and safety throughout all stages of the project.
• Ensuring value engineering is considered at the beginning of each engineering and design stage to identify opportunities to reduce costs while increasing functionality and overall design value, in coordination with the Project Manager and Client.
• Preparing or overseeing the preparation of engineering hour estimates and programmes in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and managing implementation and performance accordingly.
• Carrying out proactive inspections and audits of projects to ensure compliance with organisational and project requirements, holding project personnel accountable for resolving identified non-conformances and issues.
• Managing engineering resource allocations and requirements within the sector to meet programme and schedule dates, including demobilisation requirements.
• Ensuring all design registers, design management and assurance plans, meeting minutes, drawing registers and associated documentation are produced by project teams in accordance with organisational procedures and project requirements.
• Ensuring all formal technical and project communications are appropriately undertaken and managed, including RFIs, TQs, EWNs, MARs and similar documentation.
• Ensuring designers' risk registers are suitable, sufficient and appropriately maintained.
• Carrying out CAT 1 or CAT 2 design checks as required.
• Acting as Design Manager on smaller projects where required.
• Carrying out peer-level reviews of design projects from other sectors.
• Working with Commercial Teams to track design changes, variations and associated cost implications.
• Driving the procurement of engineering services and works required to deliver projects.
• Working with the Planning Department to plan project stages, including design, installation and testing and commissioning works.
• Providing accurate assessments of forecast works, including resource, time and cost requirements, and implementing appropriate adjustments to ensure the project programme is maintained.
• Ensuring effective implementation and performance against agreed project requirements.
• Attending FAT and SAT activities, where required, to ensure compliance with project and technical requirements.
• Promoting a positive working environment supported by strong leadership, fostering openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation and employee satisfaction.

Qualifications

• A recognised degree in an Engineering discipline from a university accredited by a UK Engineering Institution, e.g. IET, IMechE or equivalent.
• Professional Registration, such as Engineering Council Registration with Chartered status.
• Professional Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution, e.g. IET, IMechE, IFE, CIBSE or equivalent.
• HSE training, such as SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely.
• CSCS Card – AQP or PQP minimum.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
