Job Description
As Engineering Manager at AmplifyME, you will lead a small team while remaining technically hands-on. Reporting to the CTO, you will hire new talent, own code quality, and shape architectural decisions for a real-time simulation engine. This is an ideal first formal management step for a high-performing Tech Lead ready to lead.

What You Will Do
- Manage a distributed team across London and Nairobi, providing mentorship, setting engineering standards, and hiring a new Backend Engineer within your first few months.
- Drive technical excellence by owning code reviews, shaping architectural decisions for distributed systems, and leading the transition of legacy components into modern Java microservices.
- Optimize delivery speed by enhancing CI/CD pipelines, moving security and testing earlier in the lifecycle, and ensuring robust production operations on containerized AWS infrastructure.
The ideal candidate
- Strong production experience in Java with Spring Boot, coupled with practical knowledge of event-driven architectures, WebSockets, and managing distributed system patterns.
- Proven history of informal technical leadership, showing evidence of mentoring, setting goals, and giving feedback even if you haven't held the formal management title yet.
- Expert-level fluency with AI coding tools and a hands-on approach to infrastructure management using AWS, Docker, and Terraform to deploy containerized workloads.
