Engineering Team Lead (Mobile & AI-First Systems) – Carv

You’ll lead a cross-functional team of engineers, shaping an environment where they can thrive. This involves:
- Setting clear expectations, delivering direct feedback, and fostering accountability.
- Collaborating with Product to translate ambitious goals into actionable, high-impact shipping plans.
- Ensuring Carv’s product works flawlessly in real-world conditions—whether through direct ski testing or orchestrating rigorous validation on snow.

As an AI-first engineering organisation, the ideal candidate championing practical AI adoption—balancing vision with execution. We need strong technical systems to elevate AI capabilities, not just endless hype.
What You’ll Do
Lead an interdisciplinary engineering squad with full autonomy over team development:
- Leadership:
- Develop and manage a cross-functional team spanning Android, iOS, Rust, and backend engineering.
- Assume full ownership of performance, growth, and hiring decisions.

Strategy & Delivery:
- Partner with Product and the CTO to align priorities, resolve trade-offs, and ship high-quality outcomes.
- Work with senior engineers on architecture, technical vision, quality standards, and execution.

Ensuring Real-World Excellence:
- Own the validation & quality of Carv’s product, including hands-on ski testing or collaboration with specialists.
- Embed rigorous validation into the workflow, ensuring technical solutions perform under real-world conditions (i.e., on snow with actual customers).

- Foster a strong, action-oriented AI workflow—combining technical depth with workflow discipline.
- Enhance team efficiency through clarity, context-driven collaboration, build and enjoy accountability-backed culture.
What We’re Looking For
Technical Leadership & Impact:
- Proven track record of managing strong engineering talent in a startup or scaleup with a reputation for sound technical judgment.
- Hands-on experience shipping production-grade systems, including a knack for understanding trade-offs and mentoring teams accordingly.
- Deep product instinct with a relentless sense of quality, especially in real-world testing & validation.
