Role Overview
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a team building software used at global scale. This isn't a purely people-management seat — you'll stay close to the technical detail, providing genuine technical oversight and direction whilst driving delivery to meet business needs. You'll develop your people through strong agile coaching, work closely with Product Management and Product Design, and give real influence over roadmap and strategy rather than just execution.

Key Responsibilities
- Coach, mentor, and drive career development across your team
- Prioritise workload ruthlessly, remove roadblocks, and protect the team from disruption
- Collaborate closely with Product Management on strategy and backlog prioritisation
- Identify professional development opportunities and partner with the right people to deliver them
- Anticipate future hiring needs and work with talent teams to recruit and evaluate new team members
- Deliver formal performance evaluations and frequent, informal feedback
- Provide hands-on technical guidance, staying close enough to the detail to flag risks your team might overlook (scalability, performance, security, compliance, operational readiness)
- Stay current on the tools and technologies your team members are using day-to-day

What You'll Need
Essential:
- 6+ years software engineering experience, including 2+ years as a people manager/lead, with a strong hands-on technical background maintained throughout
- Comfortable getting into technical detail with your team, not just managing at a process level
- Strong track record in agile software development environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, across technical and non-technical audiences
Desirable:
- Analytical, data-driven approach to decision-making and risk management
- Experience balancing speed-to-market against long-term engineering decisions
