Role: Engineering Manager

Location: London, hybrid (2–3 days per week in office)
Salary: c£110k + 10% bonus + benefits
Tech:.NET 10, C#, SQL Azure, AI tooling
Team: 6-8 Engineers

Immersum are partnering with a rapidly growing Fintech business operating in the FX and payments space who are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead an autonomous engineering team.

This is a role for an Engineering Manager who wants genuine ownership of both people and delivery. You’ll lead a team of 6–8 engineers, own the tribe’s delivery and OKRs, and work closely with Product, Design and stakeholders to turn client problems into software that actually gets shipped and supported.

This isn't a purely people-focused management role. You need to be technically credible, comfortable reviewing designs and code, challenging technical decisions and stepping in when your team needs direction. You won't be expected to be fully hands-on, but you will be close enough to the technology to understand the risks and make informed decisions.

The Company:

This global Fintech business is transforming how businesses and financial institutions move money internationally. Operating across FX, payments and banking infrastructure, they are building a high-volume platform where reliability, scalability and correctness are critical.

The engineering environment is fast-paced and highly autonomous, with short paths between making a decision and getting it into production. Engineers are trusted to build, deploy and run the services they own, and Engineering Managers are expected to create the environment where teams can move quickly without compromising quality.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Role:

You’ll lead a team of 6–8 engineers responsible for business-critical systems across payments, FX, the ledger, reconciliation, integrations and the client portal.

You’ll own delivery, OKRs and team performance, working closely with Product, Design and senior stakeholders to turn client problems into software that gets shipped.

This is a technical Engineering Manager role. You won’t be expected to code day-to-day, but you’ll need enough technical depth to review designs and code, shape architecture and make decisions when the team needs direction.

You’ll also own the team’s production services, including reliability, observability, incidents and on-call, while maintaining a high bar for engineering quality, security and testing.

A big part of the role is building and developing the team — hiring, coaching, progression and performance — whilst creating a culture of ownership, urgency and continuous improvement.

Finally, you’ll help shape how the team uses AI in engineering, with AI development tooling already part of the day-to-day environment.

Technology:

  • .NET 10 / C#
  • Azure
  • SQL Server
  • Asynchronous & event-driven architecture
  • Azure DevOps / CI/CD
  • Grafana & Application Insights
  • AI development tooling, including Claude Code

What they're looking for:

  • Proven experience leading and managing software engineers, including hiring, performance management and difficult conversations
  • Strong commercial C# experience
  • Strong Azure and SQL Server experience
  • Enough technical depth to review designs, identify risks and be credible with senior engineers
  • Experience working in a team that owns and operates business-critical services in production
  • Strong understanding of asynchronous and event-driven systems and the failure modes associated with them
  • Product-minded, with the ability to understand the client problem behind a piece of work rather than simply following a roadmap
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and absorbing complexity rather than simply passing it down to the team
  • Able to know when to hold a technical line and when to empower senior engineers to make their own decisions
  • Experience building software using AI, rather than simply having an interest in AI
  • Experience working in regulated environments where changes require appropriate evidence and controls
  • Strong focus on engineering quality, testing, security, observability and reliability
  • A leadership style built around ownership, urgency and continuous improvement

Experience within payments, FX, banking, ledgers, reconciliation, payment compliance, bank integrations or financial systems would be useful, but isn't essential.

This would suit an Engineering Manager who wants to remain technically close to the engineering team while taking genuine ownership of people, delivery, technical direction and production outcomes.

If you're an Engineering Manager who enjoys building high-performing teams, understands the technology well enough to challenge technical decisions and wants to work in an environment where teams have genuine ownership from problem through to production, this could be a great opportunity to learn more.
