Engineering Manager – AI Unicorn | Remote-First (UK) | Up to £185,000 + 15% Bonus + VSOPs

Behind it is a profitable AI unicorn with 600 people, several industry awards and a place among the Top 50 companies to watch on the Pre-IPO Watchlist. They're now hiring an Engineering Manager to lead one of the teams building it.
The role
You'll lead a team of 6–8 engineers, spending about 70% of your time on leadership and 30% hands-on in code, system design and technical investigations. Expect to:
- Grow your engineers through regular feedback, mentoring and career development
- Lead delivery on complex, high-impact projects and set the team's technical direction
- Shape the design of high-throughput, low-latency systems
- Build strong practices around scalability, reliability, testing and performance
- Work closely with senior engineering and product leaders on strategy and priorities

What you'll bring
- A track record managing teams of around 6–8 engineers as an Engineering Manager or similar
- A strong engineering background and the ability to stay hands-on
- Experience with high-throughput applications or distributed systems (essential)
- A solid grasp of scalability, latency, reliability, concurrency and system design
- Experience running production systems at significant scale
- Strong programming skills in Go or another modern backend language
- Sound technical judgement alongside real people leadership

The package
- Salary up to £185,000, depending on experience
