Engineering Manager - Acquisition Team
The RAC are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Acquisition team - the squads behind RAC’s core website and bespoke eCommerce platform where members purchase our breakdown products. These high-traffic, mission-critical platforms are used by hundreds of thousands of members each year and is central to our growth strategy.
The role is hybrid working with 2 days per week in our Bristol office.
What You Will Do
In this role, you’ll shape the technical direction, drive the delivery of high-quality features, and lead a team of talented engineers to build high-performing, best-in-class customer journeys and landing pages.
You’ll play a key role in product development—collaborating with product managers, designers and business stakeholders to shape roadmaps, define solutions, and deliver valuable customer outcomes.
AI is central to how we want to work. We’re looking for someone who leads this by example - hands-on with AI tooling themselves, and confident helping engineers, testers, product owners and analysts alike find practical ways to work faster and better with it.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead squads in designing solutions and delivering high-quality features and integrations.
- Ensure solutions align with architectural best practices and internal standards.
- Work with Product Managers and stakeholders to estimate work and shape roadmaps aligned to company goals.
- Manage relationships with external partners to deliver robust digital platforms and integrations.
- Apply agile principles to deliver value to customers and our business, quickly and at scale.
- Coach and mentor engineers through regular 1:1s, reviews, and SMART objectives.
- Create an empowering environment where engineers can do their best work and share knowledge across the wider engineering community.
- Support incident resolution and work with DevOps and platform teams to ensure service reliability.
- Own the engineering direction for rac.co.uk and our landing page estate, keeping site performance, accessibility and technical SEO health high.
- Ensure tracking and tagging requirements are delivered reliably and consistently across the digital estate, partnering with marketing, analytics and data teams.
- Work with the SEO-M Product Owner to shape and prioritise a roadmap that supports organic growth and campaign delivery.
- Drive AI adoption across your teams - setting the example through your own use of AI tooling, and coaching engineers, testers, product owners and other roles to apply it to their day-to-day work.
- Identify where AI can improve delivery - from coding assistants and automated testing to content, SEO and analytics workflows - and turn that into measurable adoption rather than experiments.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
