Albany Growth are exclusively partnered with an established technology business developing specialist, business-critical software used by customers internationally.

They're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented software engineers, helping shape engineering culture, improve delivery processes and maintain high standards across a business where software quality, reliability and performance are critical.

This is a people-focused Engineering Manager role, with a strong emphasis on coaching, developing engineers and building high-performing teams. A hands-on software engineering background is highly valued, as you'll need the technical credibility to challenge decisions, drive engineering standards and improve processes, tooling and overall team effectiveness.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading and developing a team of approximately 6–8 software engineers, including senior engineers
  • Owning coaching, 1:1s, career progression, performance management and hiring
  • Improving engineering processes, delivery effectiveness and team productivity
  • Challenging senior engineers on technical standards, testing, quality and engineering best practices
  • Taking ownership of engineering tooling, infrastructure practices, CI/CD and automated testing standards
  • Helping introduce and scale AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices
  • Working closely with Product, Design and Technical Leads to ensure teams deliver effectively
  • Building a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and consistently high engineering standards

We're looking for:

  • Multiple years' experience as a dedicated Engineering Manager, managing software/senior engineers, and ideally Technical Leads
  • A strong software engineering background, with the technical credibility to challenge decisions without needing to code day-to-day
  • Proven experience coaching engineers, developing talent and managing performance
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, automated testing and Infrastructure as Code
  • Someone comfortable challenging engineering standards and driving improvements across teams
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar, ideally with experience introducing them into engineering teams
  • Experience in regulated, high-reliability or business-critical software environments would be advantageous, but isn't essential
