Engineering Manager
Location: East Grinstead
Salary: Up To £48,000 Per Annum + £4,000 Bonus
Overview
First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our reputable client who is seeking an Engineering Manager to join their team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the Engineering department at the South East Depot, overseeing Generator PDI Engineers, Electrical PDI Engineers, Workshop Engineers, and Labourers. The role will ensure operational efficiency, equipment readiness, high standards of quality, and full compliance with health and safety requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the daily activities of the Engineering department.
- Provide supervision, guidance, and support to engineers and labourers.
- Ensure team objectives align with company goals and operational priorities.
- Promote a positive working environment focused on safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify training and development opportunities.
- Oversee Generator PDI processes, stock control, and depot logistics.
- Attend customer site surveys, installations, and breakdowns as required.
- Provide out-of-hours call-out support as part of the depot rota.
- Ensure generators and associated equipment are maintained in line with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- Coordinate diagnostics, servicing, and corrective repairs to ensure equipment is operational and available for hire.
- Monitor generator, cable, and associated asset availability to maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Oversee stock replenishment and maintain accurate inventory records using the InspHire database.
- Ensure sufficient PDI-completed equipment is available for emergency and short-notice requirements.
- Ensure all equipment and working practices comply with relevant health and safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient working environment.
- Promote a culture of proactive risk management and safe working practices.

Skills and Qualifications

- Proven experience in a similar role within the equipment hire or power generation industry.
- Engineering background in plant and diesel engine maintenance, with detailed generator knowledge desirable.
- Previous experience leading and managing a team of engineers.
- Strong understanding of compliance, health and safety, and regulatory standards within an engineering environment.
- Excellent organisational and multitasking skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong focus on quality, safety, and customer service.
