Engineering Manager – Advanced Technology & Project Execution
This leader is responsible for leading a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver advanced technology development programs from concept through technology maturation. Reporting to the Senior R&D Manager, this role combines engineering leadership, project execution, technical coordination, resource planning, and financial management to successfully deliver complex R&D initiatives.
The Engineering Manager will oversee engineers working on a diverse portfolio of technologies, including Control Systems, Propulsion, Power Systems, Photonics, and Optical Technologies, as well as other emerging disciplines. The role requires broad engineering expertise to grapple with multifaceted technical challenges at a system level, coordinating execution across multiple engineering functions.
Operating within a global matrix organisation, the Engineering Manager will collaborate closely with technical leaders, program managers, finance, and business leadership—driving execution, removing barriers, managing priorities, and delivering technology on schedule and within budget. Where specialised engineering disciplines apply, technical functional leadership is provided through matrix relationships with subject matter experts and engineering managers, enabling this role to focus on integration and delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
