Engineering Manager, AI Product Development

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager, AI Product Development based in United Kingdom.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role focused on building and scaling AI-enabled products and modern software platforms.

  • You’ll lead a team of senior engineers while remaining deeply involved in architecture, technical decisions, and complex implementation challenges.

The role combines people leadership, product partnership, and technical execution in a remote-first, globally distributed environment.

  • You’ll help drive the adoption of AI-assisted and agentic development practices to improve productivity, quality, testing, and delivery speed.

Working across frontend, backend, data, cloud, and AI systems, you’ll shape scalable solutions while balancing performance, maintainability, cost, and speed.

  • You’ll also influence engineering culture, delivery practices, reliability, security, and modernization initiatives.

This opportunity is well suited to an experienced engineering leader who enjoys developing people while staying close to technology and innovation.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of senior software engineers, fostering ownership, accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Operations, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and high-impact product outcomes.
  • Influence product direction by challenging assumptions, advocating for user-focused decisions, and helping teams prioritize meaningful outcomes.
  • Design, review, and evolve scalable architectures while breaking complex initiatives into actionable technical plans.
  • Drive the adoption of AI-assisted and agentic development workflows to improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing, and delivery.
  • Guide development of modern full-stack applications using technologies such as TypeScript, React, Next.js, shadcn/ui, Supabase/Postgres, APIs, and cloud services.
  • Provide technical leadership across frontend, backend, data, distributed systems, and AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Lead code reviews, architecture reviews, and technical design discussions while maintaining strong engineering standards.
  • Improve CI/CD, testing, observability, reliability, security, and operational practices across the engineering organization.
  • Monitor engineering metrics and delivery indicators to identify risks, improve predictability, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead modernization initiatives, technical debt reduction, automation, and broader platform evolution efforts.
  • Remain hands-on when needed, contributing to architecture, implementation, debugging, technical investigations, and proof-of-concept development.
  • Promote effective asynchronous communication and collaboration across globally distributed teams.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting production systems.
  • Previous experience leading engineering teams, mentoring developers, and taking accountability for technical delivery.
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI capabilities such as LLMs, AI agents, RAG systems, or AI-powered workflows into products or engineering processes.
  • Strong experience with modern web development using TypeScript, React, and Next.js.
  • Proven ability to design scalable APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Experience with CI/CD automation, testing strategies, monitoring, observability, and production operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance technical leadership with hands-on execution and delivery accountability.
  • Experience modernizing systems and improving engineering effectiveness through automation, tooling, and process improvements.
  • Strong architectural judgment and the ability to evaluate trade-offs involving scalability, maintainability, cost, reliability, and delivery speed.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across product and technical functions.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, remote-first environment with globally distributed teams.
  • A coaching-oriented leadership style and commitment to developing engineers and creating a high-performing technical culture.
