Civil Engineering Manager – Power & Renewables | Bellshill, Scotland
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 (Negotiable)
Mane Contract Services is currently recruiting for an experienced Civil Engineering Manager to join a leading international engineering contractor and take ownership of civil engineering across its growing Power & Renewables business.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for a civil engineering professional who wants to influence strategy, design, project delivery, and team development, rather than simply manage individual packages.
With a substantial portfolio of work extending 5+ years, this role offers long-term stability, career development, and the opportunity to work on major infrastructure and energy projects.
The Opportunity:
As Civil Engineering Manager, you will provide strategic and technical leadership across the civil engineering function, supporting projects from tender and pre-construction through to construction and handover.
You'll work closely with engineering, electrical, commercial, and project teams to develop practical, commercially sound solutions while ensuring consistent standards and quality across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop civil engineering strategy, processes, and standards across the Power & Renewables business
- Build, manage, and mentor high-performing civil engineering teams
- Lead civil engineering input into tenders and pre-construction activities
- Oversee preliminary designs covering earthworks, drainage, access roads, and structures
- Assess risks relating to ground conditions, flooding, utilities, and environmental factors
- Manage design consultants and ensure design outputs meet project and client requirements
- Provide technical oversight across multiple projects from tender through to completion
- Coordinate civil, electrical, commercial, and project delivery teams
- Provide strategic oversight during construction, supporting teams with technical issues, changes, and risk management
- Lead site audits and ensure compliance, quality, and engineering standards are maintained
- Oversee as-built documentation, H&S files, and project close-out
- Drive lessons learned and continuous improvement across the business

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
