About The Role

At Very, Engineering Managers play a critical role in both technology leadership and people leadership.
You'll be responsible for helping your squad deliver high-quality products and services while creating an environment where engineers can thrive. Working alongside Product Managers, Architects, Delivery Managers and fellow Engineering Managers, you'll help turn ambitious ideas into customer experiences that genuinely make a difference.
This isn't a role where you'll spend your time removed from the action. You'll stay close to technical decisions, support engineering excellence and help guide the future direction of your team's products and platforms.
You'll be leading teams that build and evolve customer-facing products using modern technologies including TypeScript, React, Nest.js and AWS, working at a scale where engineering decisions have a direct impact on millions of customer interactions every year.

  • Leading and developing a team of engineers, creating an environment where people can do their best work and grow their careers

About You

You'll be a people-first engineering leader who enjoys helping teams achieve more together than they could individually.
You may already be operating as an Engineering Manager, or perhaps you're a Lead Engineer with strong coaching and leadership experience looking to take the next step.
You'll likely bring:

  • Experience leading engineering teams in a modern Agile environment
  • A strong software engineering background and the credibility to guide technical discussions when needed
  • A passion for developing engineers and building high-performing, inclusive teams
  • Experience delivering customer-facing digital products and services
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across Product, Delivery and Technology
  • A balanced approach to technology decisions, understanding both engineering excellence and commercial priorities
  • A growth mindset and a genuine desire to continuously improve people, processes and technology

You'll probably have worked with modern web technologies such as TypeScript, React, Node.js or Nest.js, alongside cloud platforms like AWS. Experience driving engineering best practice around CI/CD, observability, APIs and platform reliability would also be valuable.
Most importantly, you'll be passionate about creating an environment where engineers can thrive while delivering exceptional experiences for customers.
