Engineering Manager
Avonmouth
Permanent | £60,000 per annum
Monday to Friday | Rotating Shifts: 6am-2pm & 2pm-10pm
Bridgestaff Group are recruiting for an experienced Engineering Manager to join a major distribution operation in Avonmouth. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the mobilisation and ongoing development of a large-scale regional distribution centre, leading maintenance activities and engineering teams to ensure operational excellence, compliance, and safety.
This role is ideal for a strong maintenance leader with experience within distribution, logistics, warehousing, or large commercial environments who is passionate about developing teams, driving high standards, and delivering continuous improvement.
The Role
As Maintenance Operations Manager, you will support the delivery of the site's maintenance strategy, ensuring all maintenance, compliance, and safety activities are carried out effectively. You will lead a team of engineering technicians and trades professionals, promoting a culture of performance, accountability, and safety.
The site operates 24/7, and the successful candidate will participate in a regular call-out rota, requiring availability by phone and attendance on site within one hour for critical situations.

In addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 18:00 - 22:00 will attract an Evening Premium at a rate of £3.75 per hour, and any time worked between 22:00 - 06:00 will attract a Night Premium at a rate of £4.75 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a team of multi-skilled engineers and maintenance professionals.
- Drive a culture of safety, compliance, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
- Manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities across the site.
- Ensure all statutory compliance requirements are met, including audits, inspections, and record keeping.
- Build effective relationships with contractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
- Monitor maintenance performance and identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
- Support maintenance projects and ensure all works are delivered safely and efficiently.
- Assist with budget management, procurement activities, and capital expenditure planning.
- Ensure site compliance relating to Health & Safety, Fire Safety, LOLER, PUWER, Legionella, and other statutory requirements.
- Support sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives across the operation.
Requirements
Essential
- Extensive maintenance leadership experience within a distribution, logistics, retail, manufacturing, or similar environment.
- Proven experience managing multi-skilled engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and statutory compliance requirements.
- Experience managing contractors, supplier relationships, and maintenance budgets.
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and CAFM systems.
- Time-served Electrician qualification or equivalent HVAC qualification.
- NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent Health & Safety qualification).
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and reporting skills.

- Knowledge of maintenance compliance auditing and asset management systems.
- Experience delivering engineering or maintenance improvement projects.
