The Role
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop the engineering and maintenance function within a busy manufacturing and production environment.
This is a key leadership role with responsibility for ensuring the safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective operation of all plant, equipment, and site infrastructure.
You will lead the engineering team, develop preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, and drive improvements in asset reliability, operational performance, and maintenance effectiveness.
The role will also take ownership of engineering compliance, maintenance planning, contractor management, budgets, and the delivery of capital projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the engineering and maintenance team, creating a safe, compliant, and high-performing working environment.
- Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Maximise plant reliability, availability, and operational performance.
- Manage maintenance planning and work management systems.
- Monitor engineering performance through KPIs and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with statutory engineering requirements and inspection regimes.
- Manage engineering contractors and external service providers.
- Take responsibility for engineering budgets, cost control, forecasting, and expenditure.
- Manage engineering stores, spare parts, and maintenance inventory.
- Oversee asset lifecycle activities to ensure cost-effective operation.
- Lead engineering improvement initiatives and capital projects from planning through to delivery.
- Use maintenance management systems and performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with operational and senior management teams to support wider site objectives.

About You
We are looking for an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in manufacturing, production, or process environments and previous experience leading maintenance engineering teams. You will be a confident and credible leader who can develop high-performing teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability, and operational performance.
You will be comfortable making data-led decisions, managing competing priorities, and working collaboratively across different functions. Most importantly, you will be proactive, commercially aware, and committed to driving continuous improvement across the engineering function.
You will ideally have:
- A minimum Level 3 Engineering qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-Skilled Engineering.
- Previous experience managing or leading a maintenance engineering team.
- Strong knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance.
- Experience managing engineering compliance and statutory inspections.
- Experience using CMMS and/or CAFM systems.
- Experience managing engineering budgets, costs, and forecasting.
- Knowledge of engineering stores, spare parts, and inventory management.
- Experience managing contractors and external service providers.
- Strong understanding of engineering KPIs and continuous improvement.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and business systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

It would be advantageous if you also have:
- HNC/HND or degree in an Engineering discipline.
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
- Leadership and Management qualification.
- Professional Engineering Council registration (EngTech, IEng, or CEng), or willingness to work towards this.
- Experience delivering CAPEX engineering projects from concept through to commissioning.
- Experience working within an ISO 55001-aligned asset management environment.
- Experience using business intelligence and reporting tools to analyse maintenance and financial performance.
